  1. Since buying a Plextor 8x DVD burner I have not been able to use Instant CD/DVD (my preferred choice) to burn discs as the drive is not supported by my version. Unwilling to part with more cash at this point I started using Nero 6 which does support the Plextor.

However, while Nero produces discs which will play on my Sony DVD player, the same discs do not play on my old Toshiba player whereas discs produced using Instant CD/DVD play happily on both.

Can anyone please offer any suggestions as to the best software currently available which supports the Plextor burner and gives the best compatibility with standalone players? (Tips on settings to use etc would be welcomed too.)

  2. M8, You mention that it is since you got your Plextor that you have not been able to use Instant CD/DVD. I take it from this that you were using it with a different burner before?

Is the Plextor a Dual +/- R Burner?

If so I think your problem is that your old burner was a +R burner that had a default bitsetting of DVD ROM this would be recognised by old Toshiba DVD Players.

However no Dual Burner has bitsetting capabilities and in +R mode does not do DVD ROM..

So it is your burner that is the issue not the software.

Stick with Nero and then find some format and brand of disks that works on both players.

It would be helpful if you posted your computer details, or at least the models of dvd players you have.

  4. Hi all.

wy685mm, what mode did you use Nero in?
    DVD-Video or UDF/ISO?
Whichever one you used you might want to try the other.

What media do you burn to, DVD-R or DVD+R?
Your Toshiba might not be compatible with one or the other.

If burning to DVD-R, you might want to give burnatonce a try.
It's a free proggy that has been working flawlessly for me.

  5. I have used Nero in both modes but DVD Video mode gave me a disc playable on my Sony player and not on the Toshiba.

I burned a +r in data mode but it produced a coaster. I have so far only used +r discs and had no issue with burning until I used Verbatim discs for the first time on my previous burner (Philips DVDRW228K) with Instant CD/DVD.

The amount of resulting coasters made me change the burner for the new Plextor, only this drive is not supported by the borning software so I had to look elsewhere. Nero has never been my favourite burning software, but specific tips on getting compatible discs would be great as I want to be sure of my setup before I burn more discs.

  6. Finally got round to trying the UDF/ISO mode referred to- I hadn't tried that one despite my earlier posting. Works a treat- thanks.

  7. Since my last posting (when I burned a -R disc successfully) I tried the same with +R discs but get the same problem despite trying the UDF/ISO mode, the UDF only mode and the same with Pinnacle Instant CD/DVD 7.

Is this down to the lack of bitsetting or is there some other software that will allow a burn on the Plextor PX-708A which will be more compatible?
