  2. Yep, and even though Arnold got almost 1 1/2 times the votes as Bustamante, Jesse Jackson wants to contest the vote!

    He cracks me up.

I can't believe Calif. is the 5th biggest economy in the world!!!
    Man, that's incredible!
We've just been talking about it in the (UK) office, isn't it also true Calif has a debt bigger than the rest of the US put together?

I feel sorry for the big guy. I like him and think he has good intentions,
    but...

Anyone that would go into American politics must be crazy! I really don't think he realizes the amount of frustration he is about to endure for the next four years!
Just what is this reality thing anyway?

I'm not sure about that but I do know that they're in for quite a lot.

It's a dirty job, but someone's gotta do it. Imagine the world without politicians. OK, now that I think about it, bad analogy...but you get my point.

I personally think the next governer should've been either larry flint or mary carey :P

  6. I wish him the best of luck.

It'll be interesting to see what type of Governor he actually makes and whether he can do anything about California's problems. I think the move he made by hiring Warren Buffet as one of his financial advisors was very smart indeed.

Yes,that's because we have too many illegals and people on welfare.

I hope Arnold does a good job and repeals the "car tax" I can't afford $600 per year.

  11. Our car tax was repealed here in VA a few years back.

One by one DMV are closing down. That means more unemployment. Everytime you go to the DMV it'll be a few hour wait. And thats just to talk to a human for even a minor detail.

I want our car tax back...

Our car tax has nothing to do with DMV or roads, it's fed right into the general fund. My license fee on my 1995 Toyota Tacoma was $68 last year. After Davis raised the tax it went to over $200.

I just bought a new Isuzu Rodeo sport 2 days before the car tax went into effect and my license fee was $200 (that doesnt even include the $1600 sales tax). If I would have bought it after the tax took effect it would have been over $600!

You can have your car tax! mine too! I'm just glad Arnold won so it will now be repealed

"I can kill that tax with my signature alone and I will do exactly that," Schwarzenegger said last week to thunderous cheers.

The State Department of Finance reacted to Schwarzenegger's boast about immediately killing the car tax with legal arguments saying in short: No way.

Representatives for state employees, Indian tribes and backers of driver's licenses for undocumented immigrants hold similar sentiments about Schwarzenegger's 100-day agenda. Their resistance foreshadows the gridlock that could dominate, even paralyze the Capitol if Schwarzenegger wins Tuesday's election and declares war on priorities held dear by a Democrat-controlled Legislature. The backlash also revealed the Capitol's elaborate system of checks and balances that typically prevent speedy action and quick results.

Finance department attorneys have already determined that a governor alone can't repeal the car tax hike, said spokeswoman Anita Gore. First, state law must be changed, and that would take a majority of the Legislature. [mostly Democrats. Gee, wonder what they'll vote for?]

State Finance Director Steve Peace triggered the hike on June 20, returning the 2 percent tax on vehicle purchase price to 1998 levels. Peace's administrative move boosted the state treasury by $4.2 billion a year, money which Schwarzenegger would have to find elsewhere if he successfully repeals the tax.

"I think a lot of lawyers will have to weigh in on that," [ed. note: Great Idea! Bring in more lawyers!] said Pat Leary, lobbyist for the California State Association of Counties. "And if you do that ... you've just blown a $4.2 billion hole in the budget."

Likewise, state Sen. Gil Cedillo, the Los Angeles Democrat who authored the driver's license bill for undocumented [ed. note: undocumented = PC term for illegal] immigrants that becomes law Jan. 1, promised to stop Schwarzenegger's intentions to repeal it.

Yeah, we love higher taxes and giving everything away to illegals!!!

my four thoughts on the recall:

    1. Cali voters deserve what they asked for. Bon appetit, kids.

    2. shouldn't they be a little concerned about someone who thinks that Governor is an entry-level political position? even Ventura was Mayor first.

    3. anyone who equates Clinton to Schwarzennegger vis a vis groping needs to look up the word "consensual", and think about who it applies to.

    4. take a peek at your state history, to another Republican who ran for Governor on a "no tax increases" platform against a "fiscally irresponsible" democrat. His name was Reagan. What did he do when he entered office? Raised taxes, in excess of what was needed to cover the state shortfall. He just played it off as "well, my predecessor left me no choice, I have to do it."

I'm willing to give him a shot.

I actually watched his victory speech, waiting for him to say something stupid.... but it didn't happen.

Maybe there's brains under that thick accent and movie muscle.

As far as "entry-level" is concered, I see nothing different than anybody else. I may be missing a few facts, but all I saw from G.W. Bush was owner of the Texas Rangers to Texas governor to President.

All he has to do is go right to the people like Reagan did. If they stand in the way of the reason we elected him there will be hell to pay....

If I were the US Attorney in California, I would be instructing my deputies to PROCESCUTE any state official that issues a driver's license to an illegal alien and I would be making no secret about my intention to do so. The California law is in conflict with already established Federal immigration law.

  24. I know very little about US politics, but how many of you think that Arnold will actually be making the governing decisions, as apposed to him being a figurehead and being told what to do and say by a load of suits behind the scenes.

Well, I realise that. But he is top dog in California, is he not. So he will be making decisions that affect 1 in 7 Americans.

Checks and Balances do exist you know. Usually the governer will just sign off on important decisions that have been looked over for extended period of time where they have been placed under intense scrutiny.

    And that's 1 in 8.
