    Is it possible to burn the new firmware without using nero.

    Whats so hard about? If you dont have it, then just go downlaod the the trial one, be sure to get nero6, then all you have to do is open the .bin, and burn. Forget lite-on's drections....

    I have roxio on my system at the moment and do not want to install nero. I have been stung once by having both installed at once.

    You might be able to create a cue sheet for it and burn it with CDRWIN, or you can convert it to a ISO (which ez cd creator suports) and burn it with that.

    A quick search on the WWW gave the following program's which should be able to convert a NERO-image (nrg) to a standard ISO.
    I think you should try nrg2iso first .
