  1. Hey all,

I've read LordSmurf's guide and I'm hoping I can do something about this. I'm trying to convert the old Spidey series to DVD using my store bought tapes that were released way back (even before the Rhino re-releases). Two of the tapes appear fine on the TV, but flicker every few seconds while capturing. This also results in a lot of frames being dropped (over 1%). Is there ANYTHING I can try? I can't believe that it looks great on the TV and there is zilch I can do to fix it. Would trying a different VCR help? I've tried most/all of LordSmurf's tips like shutting off processes, DSL, etc. I've followed his caputre guide as well. Lastly, I noticed that when I try to play the affected file after burning to DVD, it freezes on that frame and there isn't anything I can do to get it to play again. Sorry for the long post, but I need help. ARRRGH!

I converted my old Spidey long ago. The 80s series, I bet? I've actually done ALL Spiderman to DVD, so let me know which one gave you trouble...

Anyway, the 80s tapes were SLP commericial tapes, terrible to work with. The problems lie in the tape and VCR. You need a machine that can actively calibrate and stabilize the signal.

Checking my notebook, I see that I used the JVC 9800 with stabilizer filters on some episodes. Others I used the built-in TBC. In the end, I now have a perfect set.

I experienced this EXACT problem with these EXACT tapes.

What codec did you use to capture, was it the PicVideo MJPEG by any chance?
