  1. Hello all, I have been making DVD backups in SVCD 2 disk format for a while. I just bought a DVD writer and have been reading this forum to learn the best methods of going DVD to DVD-r. I am seeing that many DVD's are 9.? gig dual layer disk (wasn't aware of that) and do not fit on a DVD-r. I am also reading what seems to be the same quality loss I'v delt with in SVCD (which by the way the SVCD's have been very good quality, certainly not hard to look at. Practice makes perfect!) My questions are: 1: will I be able to make an exact duplicate of a 4.7 gig DVD to a 4.7 gig DVD-r? 2:If i burn my 9.? gig DVD's to 1 SVCD with a very high non compliant SVCD bitrate (my player supports it) would that not produce better quality video and on one singe DVD-r (prob less then 2 gig file)? I realize not better than 2 DVD-r disks though.

    Thanks in advance!

  3. If a dvd is a dvd-5 (single layer) you simply can use DVDDecrypter in ISO mode (read, then write). If the dvd is dvd-9 (dual layer) then use DVD2ONE, DVDSHRINK etc. to make the movie fit on a dvd-r. For better quality, just select main movie with one audio track and one subtitle.

Read the guides and see how easy it is. Quality much better then SVCD, but that is my opinion.

    Good Luck

    You not tried svcd2dvd then....
I must have been doing something worng then......

Does what it says on the box....

On the other point dvd Shrink does a very good job and i have yet to back-up a film where i have found the quality to be anything other than great. Most films on dual layer disk require level 5-6 compression as well if keeping extras.
    Not bothered by small problems...

SVCD2DVDMPG+ is a great program, which I bought because it's great.

But it has limited compatibility. Not every DVD player out there (not even the MAJORITY) can play SVCD-DVD's properly.
