  1. It must totally KILL you people who bought into the DVD minus format that the DVD PLUS camp is perfecting dual layer discs and drives and plan on introducing them in '04. God, go back in time to when DVD- was the only game in town. EVERYONE was crying for dual layer discs to write to. Now that the PLUS camp is trying to see that dream to fruition, all you minus people are bitching about..."I bet it won't be compatible with sh*t"...."no way this will work"......but we all know that if it was pioneer's press release instead of Phillips you all would be like "pioneer the first to market with dual layer media"...."we can't wait, it will be 110% compatible"...... damn, give Phillips some credit! Another reason why minus lost the war......they keep nailing their coffin shut with every DUAL FORMAT drive they produce. I don't see Phillips making dual format drives. Pioneer saw the writing on the wall, why can't you? PLUS is better!!!! First to market with faster writing drives and will soon be first to market with dual layer media and drives!!!!!!!!!

    Hey The village idiot,

    Truth hurts, doesn't it?

  4. Sorry to bust your bubble
Sounds like Pioneer already got numbers out on their discs!!!!!!

Pionneer to proceed with dual layer recording
    Friday, 3 October 2003

Pioneer Corporation has proceeded to the development of dual layer recording on DVD-R discs.
The first measurements on the two layer DVD-R discs showed that the jitter for the fisrt layer is 9.34%, the reflectivity 17.3%, while the same measurements for the second layer were 8.08% and 19.5%, respectively. Playback compatibility with the current DVD players is expected to be high.

Although the limited information about the technology background, dual layer DVD recording is definitely a major step beyond and expected to boost the sales of DVD writers.

No not at all. The entire purpose of this thread is to mearly incite riot. I could really give a sh!t if +r has a dual layer disc out. It still doesn't offer certain features. And what one has the others will also have. The technology is more in the laser than in the disk substrate. Iam glad that at least one person could see the problem, and I think he may be a +r person too, though I might be wrong.

BTW, there is at least one other +r dual layer thread already going, and it talks about it intelligently. Not a HA HA you -R fools are out of luck thread like this one is!

How I wish for a PLONK feature here!

    1. Doesn't matter who wins... look at burner prices.
    2. Competition is mainly between media prices now. Thats good for everyone with dual format burners.
    3. Both sides have dual layer burner tech on the horizon. Last I heard the plus camp suggested it might not be released. (This may very well have changed since it was first announced. (update: appears to have changed)
    4. Doesn't matter. No reason to have another thread like this going.
