  1. My Dell Dimension originally came with an NEC ND1100A DVD drive which was jumpered as cable select. I recently upgraded with a second DVD drive, an NEC ND2500A. I now have the 2500A jumpered as master and the 1100A as slave. I've since copied a few CD's and DVD's from drive to drive using Roxio Easy CD Creator 5 without any problems. I also have no problems reading CD's or DVD's on either drive. However, I tried to to copy and paste a CD audio file onto my desktop and it would not open with either Windows Media Player or Dell Music Match. I also tried to open a CD audio file in Adobe Audition 1.0 without success, something I was able to do before I added the second drive. Any suggestions?

    Thanks,
    Gary

    Hello,
I'm not entirely sure what your problem is. If you mean you can't copy the uncompressed track file from the audio cd there are some alternatives. If your goal is to make an mp3 out of it just use any free ripper to do it. If you want the uncompressed wav for better sound most rippers should be able to do wavs. Just select the track you want and save as a wav file.

Special note, is this problem with the same cds? Or does this happen with newer discs? Some have special tricks to hide the cd tracks in the my computer listing (ie phil collins brother bear and others). You need to use a newer mp3 ripper like musicmatch to "see" these tracks. Older audio players like windows media player 6 won't recognise the audio on these hybrids. Or at least that has been my experience.

Best bet: just use a new ripper to get the tracks you want. Good luck and post a little more discriptions of what you want to do with it (to help us help you).

  3. Thanks for the tips, Kevin. Actually, I'm trying to use the audio clips as background music for a video project. I discovered that if I used the "Soundstream" function in Roxio Easy CD Creator 5, I could copy the tracks directly to my hard drive and thus edit them in Audition as needed. And hey, it only took two hours to figure out! Excuse the ignorance of a beginner... 8)
