  2. Define join DVD files. I assume you want to take clips from DVD1 and put them next to clips from DVD2, etc. Well the short answer is that's not easy. MPEG encoded files were not meant to be edited. All of the editing is suppose to be prior to encoding, and then you encode the final product and leave it alone.

    You have several choices. If you just want stuff back to back, you can re-author with DVD Shrink. This is the easiest way to do. Rip everything you want to the HD, choose re-author, drag/drop the clips you want, and use the start/stop control for more precise editing if needed. This will proceed a 'highlights DVD' no menu, very simple, very easy.

    Other choice is to rip everything and a) demux to m2v/ac3, b) use vobcutter or a similar program to cut everything into pieces. Eiter way you end up re-authoring form those pieces. The difference is that you can add a menu, chapter points, etc.

    There are some other choices but it really depends on what you want to do. TMPGenc is a ENCODING program, it's not suppose to merge/cut/join anything. You need the right tools for the job (yes there are options under MPEG tools, these are not for editing).

    k here's the real deal, I got simpsons seasons 1 avi that converted to mpeg dvd file from tmpgenc (using dvd template) give me 5.5 gig which is too big. I wanted to resize it from dvd2one but it can't take different titles so I want to join all the dvd mpg to be able to compress the file in dvd one and author it in dvd lab to do make an episode a chapter.

    that's about what I'm trying to do, might be the worst method you've ever heard but i don't know all the program and I don't have all the time to test and that method should work

    If you just change your order of operations slightly....

    Author your DVD even if it's too big, by adding all your separate
    files.

    Use DVDShrink to shrink that slightly

  8. MPEGVCR is a good mpeg cutter / joiner.
    Ejoc's CVD Page:
    DVDDecrypter -> DVD2AVI -> Vobsub -> AVISynth -> TMPGEnc -> VCDEasy

    DVD:
    DVDShrink -> RecordNow DX

    Capture:
    VirualDub -> AVISynth -> QuEnc -> ffmpeggui -> TMPGEnc DVD Author

    Ulead VideoStudio can render out a series of separate MPEGs to form one MPEG and then burn it to disc in traditional fashion.

    Ulead VideoStudio can also export a series of MPEGs and burn them as *one* to a DVD-RAM disc using a built-in DVD-VR export plug-in.

    There's a FREE trial here:

    http://www.ulead.com/vs/trial.htm

    I'm sure there are trial versions of the other packages mentioned so you can try them all and compare.
