I have to say, Netflix has changed my life. I have an erratic work/school schedule, and I never know when I am going to get very busy all of a sudden, and so I would ALWAYS have late fees when renting with Blockbuster, Hollywood etc.

Now, I return them when I feel like it, and the turnover is usually the next day, becasue they are on the other side of the lake in Tacoma, I live in Redmond (30 min away)

    I recommend it!

  2. I use Netflix! Sadly bigger companies like Wal Mart may monopolize the market in my area forcing the Netflix near me to go out of business

It’s great, now since there is a Netflix division closer to me, discs arrive around 3-5 days.

The service I have is 3 discs maximum.
    I do recommend it.

I use it too and I think its tops! I can get all sorts of stuff that I can't find locally. I never used to rent movies that often due to the fact that the rental places would never have what I wanted to see. Turn around for me is about 6 days.

I think Netflix is great. Hassle free DVD rental. From the time I mail it back til I receive the next one is 5-6 days. I get about 15 DVD's a month (3 dvd's out level). Works out to less than 1.50 per dvd after tax. Selection is usually good, but sometimes they do not have dvd's they should--Ed Wood for example (though they did have Plan 9 from Outer Space!). Also great for guys like me who live out in the "sticks"

  5. I was tentative to try Netflix at first.. but i can honestly say, it's the best monthly payment i have! Turnaround time (from when I mail out to when I recieve) is only 2 days, so it's incredibly convenient for me!

yeah, I have noticed that they have a ton of obscure and foreign titles but some very common movies they don't have for some reason (although this is rare)

I get 8 at a time, it is always so exciting to open my mailbox the day after I drop off my old ones at the post office and see the new ones already!

I almost NEVER go to Blockbuster anymore, just every once in a while if I want a new release that has a wait at Netflix.

I was a Netflix customer for almost two years, but over that time, the service became slower and slower. You used to be able to check in two disks when you mailed them so those two would cross paths with the next two. This made it easier for those of us who live on the east coast as Netflix didn't have multiple warehouses then. Then that stopped. Then there would be a one or two day interval between their receiving the returned disks and their shipping the next set. The last straw was the elimination of 'Mature' items for no real reason.

On the positive side, two disks were lost in the mail and they didn't charge me for them. And they sent me a nice storage device.

  8. Is there a listing of where their distribution warehouses are located? I couldn't find any info on their website. I'm really thinking about starting a membership, and I don't want to sign-up with a monopoly like Wal-Mart or Blockbuster(even though I have yet to hear about them starting up one in my area, Southern California). Besides, I just rented a dvd from Blockbuster and since it was a new release, I had to return it within 2 days... and guess what? It was late. I hate the way they try to ruin your credit history with their lame ass late fees. The only reason I rented from them was because I received a gift card.

  9. I have to say here in the Baltimore/Washington area they have the mechanics of the system down well. Very fast delivery. Usually one day. Returns also only take one day. Not sure why they don't work on Saturday.

Problem is you simply can't get a new release. For instance, I've got 10 titles at the top of my rental cue with a wait. 5 of which you could get immediately from Blockbuster. For instance, I've been waiting over a month for Road to Perdition.

I've got the 3 out plan and have been running 10 movies a month.

Like I Said earlier, I really like Netflix. But, dahaker is right. I have 3 movies with the "long wait" status. They got that one right! 101 Dalmations and Body Heat--3 months now. There are thousands of titles out there and the wait is no big deal to me--I watch 3-5 movies a week, and of course diligently "back-up" my personal collection.

I shouldn't share this secret because it will probably bump me from a new movie. Here is what has worked for me.

When you add a new movie to your rental list and it shows up on the bottom as unreleased, you need to monitor that list every day or so. When you see a movie is assigned a release date, move the new movie to your rental list a day or 2 before the release date and assign #1 to it. So far, it has worked for me on a regular basis.

If you wait a day or two after the release date to add the movie to your rental list, somebody like me already has it rented and others are on a waiting list ahead of you to also rent it.

NetFlix is great for me. I am using the 5 a month plan until I get thru their catalog.

  12. Netflix is better than walmart. I usually get 2 day turn around time. Walmart took 5 to 6 days.

What the obligation like. I always see try for free... etc, but how long is the free trial? Do they then automatically sign you up after that?
Can you really "quit anytime" as their ads say?

Been curious, but never tried it out myself.

With Walmart it was a 30 day free trial. You just have to cancel your account before the trial expires and you wont get billed. Netflix is the same.

Netflix is an online DVD rental store. You browse through their categories of tons of cool DVDs (some very hard to find at video stores) and they send you the DVDs in the mail. You can have 3 DVDs out at once to start (takes a few days back and forth-not bad) and you send them back whenever you're done. They receive it and send you the next on your list! You're never without DVDs to watch (unless you send them back all at once). They're in constant email contact so you know what's goin' on with the mailings.

It's awesome!!! Their data base is huge, though. Browsing time can be extensive.

And you know those straight to video movies on the rental shelves that look so pretty-but are USUALLY garbage? I've taken to bringing a notepad (Yup! Light-up neon pen and fuzzy notepad-I know no shame!), write the titles down, and go home to my computer and checking the user reviews to see if they're any good. I've saved myself quite a multitude of excruciatingly painful video watching hours that way! And found a few gems.

by the way-it costs $19.95 a month (less than I used to spend at the rental store).
    (man-I sound like I work for them-sorry)

Gargantuan, their west coast distribution point that I use is in San Jose, Ca. Takes about 3 days turnaround for the disks. I kept one disk for 4 months and no problems.

  19. All this netflix talk!

I have been on the 8 DVD out plan for a few months now, and love it.

They just need an adult section.

    Has any one tried dvdavenue.com?
    they have and adult section

    or XrentDVD.com?
    which is pure adult
