  1. Can anyone shed light on some of the players they are aware of that will play a raw .mpeg file straight from a DVD-R disc? I am aware that the Mintek players do. Philips has one that does that as well, however, Philips does not support DVD-R. There's a plethera of players with Macro defeat and with other interesting features, but the instructions doesn't say whether it will play raw .MPEG files. It came to my attention that some players will (such as the Mintek), but the advertisements/labels make no mention of it. Again, if anything crosses your minds please add some info to this thread.

  2. My LVD2001 plays MPEG1/2 files from ISO CDs/DVDs. The file extension has to be 'mpg' (not .mpeg, or m2v, or anything else). I believe it can also play mpegs from memory cards too - I have not tried this.

My Norcent DP-300 does as it will also display raw jpeg images and play MP3s burned onto DVD+-R/RW.

  4. Apex has a string of players with that feature, however, there are a couple variables that I'd like to know if your players has AS WELL: Macrovision Defeat + Progressive Scan. Now there are a plethera of players with that feature, but they can not play raw .mpegs. So if any of you can keep those combination of features in mind please list them players..

According to the specs it sais it support Mpeg-1 and Mpeg-2. One could rename the file from .mpeg to .mpg. I think that's all syntax to the player.

    Mintek(my workhorse),Apex,Shinsonic,Cyberhome,etc.
My Mintek will play everything on DVD(including MP3).
If you want pro. scan then get the Cyberhome 500($70USD).

  8. My Philips 726 has no problem with DVD-R media, but it wouldn't play an MPG file on a CD-RW with other MP3 files on it. It showed the MP3 files and would play them, but didn't "see" the MPG.

  9. Philips 726 can play avi and mpeg files recorded on cd-r, cd-rw and dvd-r. Unfortunatlly it dosen't play all avi and mpeg files. I don't know why, but I think that a codec has something to do with it.
