  1. 1. - Is there an option in TMPGENC DVD Authoring similar to VCDEasy's 5% TV Cropping option? With anime Subtitles, they get cut off sometimes without this option enabled.

    2. - Anime, again. What would be a better option, VCD files, or DVD files at around 2,000-3,000 kpb/sec? In other words, would low quality DVD files be better than standard quality VCD's?

    Any help appreciated, thanx!

DVD is better because of MPEG2 instead of MPEG1

  3. So am I to assume there's no way to crop it to fit better on the TV using TMPGEND DVD Author?

You can't do anything to an mpeg file without re-encoding so
    the Author program won't

The TMPGenc encoder will do it though.

What? At the same resolution and bitrate mpeg2 and mpeg1 are going to be similar in quality. Just because it's mpeg2 doesn't make it better.

A DVD file of 352x480 resolution at 2-3000kb/s would be far better than any VCD.

MPEG2 can be better by 20% just because it can store
5 frames in the space of 4 for NTSC FILM movies.

That's good for 24fps movie source.

But this doesn't apply to anime that is 29.97 source.

I thought most anime was 24 fps.
Drawing 24 pictures / sec is enough of a pain as it is.

  10. Yeah most anime is @ 23.976fps.

From the help im getting from smurf and adam, it seems best way to encode your anime(which is what im trying to do) is at 352x240 MPEG-2 @ 23.976fps with 3:2pulldown, do either a 2 pass VBR or CQ, you can judge your own bitrate depending on how much anime you want on a DVD.

VCDEasy DOES do this. There is an option to increase up to 5% so the TV doesn't chop off the outside "border" of the VCD. It doesn't actually change the Mpeg, but it does keep the sides and bottom from being cut off, allowing me to see the subtitles

Is there a way to do this while encoding via TMPGenc? I'd love to be able to do it then, but can't figure out how to. I'd be happy just to be able to put a 5% border around the whole mpeg , kinda shrinking it just a tiny bit so it fits on my TV better.

I sure don't know how it does that. I think it's not possible
    I'll look and see.

  13. Here's an example of what I'm talking about. In this link:https://www.videohelp.com/forum/userguides/84327.php

In the first photo/screenshot, it says TV(Aspect ratio Correction) and then, under that it says TV Cropping - 3%

What this does, is shrink the image 3% so it fits inside the TV, where it would normally be outside the viewable area, therefor cutting off the subtitles.

I thought so. That's just for the menu picture which BTW does
    get encoded after the crop.

    You can't modify a MPEG without re-encoding.

  15. Um, no it's not. It's for the entire movie/VCD. in THAT example it is, but it's the same option for when burning the entire VCD. It's not changing ANYTHING in the MPEG. That's NOT my question. It's changing the layout of the VCD by adding a 3% cropped black bar to all sides.

Sigh, at any rate, I already found a work-around through tmpgenc.

You CAN'T add to the MPEG encoded video !
There is no mechanism to add picture information to the
Video including blank pictures or borders

Your solution with TMPGenc is RE-ENCODING the video.
You are making a NEW one.

  17. Well, I suppose you'll have to contact VCDEasy with that one then, because that's what it did. I add the 3% screen crop, and it didn't cut off the subtitles on the exact same .mpeg file.

    I'm not saying you're crazy. I'm saying I can't understand it,
    and I hate that.
