  1. I found out my DVD player can't play DVD with PAL vob files. How can I convert the vob files to NTSC while keeping the whole dvd with menus and all.

I was thinking of converting the vobs(PAL) to m2v/wav(NTSC) with tmpegenc then recombining into vobs all the audio streams... then updating the ifo/bup files with ifoedit and makeiteasy... But then I realized this would take me a few days to get working properly through trial and error.

So does anyone know a way I could convert the files from PAL->NTSC with a simple program. I tried using DVD-Shrink but it just converts the original vobs into smaller PAL vobs.

    Thanks in advance,
    Hello

  2. Your DVD player CAN play PAL - it has to be able to if it carries the DVD Video logo.

Would I be correct in saying it is more accurate to say that your TV can not display PAL correctly ? Multi standard TV's are not that common in NTSC areas, but here in the UK most TV's with a SCART socket will accept NTSC BUT sometimes only on one of the inputs.

If the TV is a no-go, check the setup menu on your DVD player - some modern decks can perform a rudimentary standards conversion which, while not always of fantastic quality, are easier to achieve than recoding (there are numerous posts an guides in these forums covering exactly this problem if you do a search).

Alternatively, standard convertor boxes are coming down in price all the time (except the Pro ones), and some of the domestic units do a surprisingly good job for not a lot of cash.

  3. I really think it's my DVD Player though, I isolated the vts_01_X.vob files and created simple ifo's for them with ifoedit... which should've just played the movie when played on the DVD Player, but it didn't.

The player said "Playback prohibited by area limitations." I'm guessing this is Sony's way of cutting back on materials...

But the question still stands, is there a way of converting VOBs from PAL->NTSC?

P.S. My DVD Player has problems playing PAL SVCDs, half the picture is always green and very blocky no matter what bitrate I encode the mpeg2 at.
