So, who's your hard earned cash on this year?
Is Manchester United gonna keep their crown, is Arsenal gonna' slip up again or is this Russian Billionaire gonna' buy it for Chelsea?
To coin a rather annoying phrase...
(in my best Geordie accent)........................You Decide!!
My money is on Newcastle, dunno why, I just fancy a change
My money is on:
1. Newcastle
2. Arsenal
3. Chelsea
No Manchester United?
I know, I know, just call it wishful thinking
Rather than list these options in alphabetical order they're in the order they finished last year.

I would like to see Newcastle win it, I have got a lot of time for Bobby Robson. On the other hand I cant stand Alex Ferguson, arrogant twat. But if I had to put money on it, it would be for Man utd to win the title again.
No Leeds in the poll Will
They could be the equivalent of the TGPO option.
I voted Man Utd, not because I want them to win, but I think they probrably will. -
Good to see that Spurs are in neither poll (Win/Relegated) - middle of the road mediocrity again!
Will, I'd open the windows a bit more when you're changing nappies - I can only assume that the toxic fumes made you put Southampton as a choice.
Oh yeah! Forgot the question. I'm getting out my dusty copy of the Sun's England prayer mat and changing the words to 'Anyone but Man Utd'. I hope the team that scores the most goals win - at least attacking play should be rewarded over defence.Regards,

Anyway, isn't the proper name American Football, not Football. And Americans are the only nation that call Football Soccer, everyone else knows better
.
Football has been played in England for over 800 years, long before the USA existed, let alone American Football.

I removed the link I had because while it did talk about the Football/Soccer issue, half way through the page it started bashing the UK it seemed, and talking about why America is better than the UK.....geez, all that over a Soccer/Football naming issue.

Yea, those rugby players don't have pads and helmits...but they DAMN SURE DON'T have the strength and speed as NFL players! Tell me ANY rugby player that can bench over 500 lbs and run a sub 4.2 in the 40. I doubt any of them can do either of those two..but certainly not both. I also haven't heard of too many rugby players breaking their neck on a single play..but it happens often in the NFL. Guys will risk their own phyisical well being..especially in a playoff game to do whatever it takes to win.
Ahh yea...it's FOOTBALL SEASON....one month to the day is opening day....I can't wait.
By the way good luck to your soccer teams....when it's over hook up that satellite and watch a REAL SPORT! -

The world record for the 60m sprint is 6.39s by Maurice Greene. Considering that the slowest part of a sprint is right at the start, I very much doubt that someone who can lift 500lbs will complete a 40m sprint in 4.2s. In fact, I doubt that Maurice Green himslef could do a 40m sprint in 4.2s.
First, let me say that you are ABSOLUTELY CORRECT, ...Maurice Greene probably could NOT lift 500 lbs and run a 4.2/40M. Maurice Greene would also be the first to tell you that he couldn't play in the NFL either. Maurice Greene, Donovan Bailey, Michael Johnson, Carl Lewis...all those guys are/were great sprinters. But Sprinting and football are two COMPLETELY DIFFERENT horses.
First, when anyone is referring to running the 40 competitively..."METERS" is always assumed. It's a given....of course, that's here in the States. And although football deals with yards...being clocked in the 40...mean 40 meters. Now as far as you "doubting" anyone can do what I said...I guess that would mean i'm full of shit, right? Wrong...unlike others..I don't bullshit. First of all Rheghedus...it's obvious you are unaware of the althletic talent in the National Football League. That's ok....I know you aren't in the states so I don't hold that against you...you should just try and understand something first though before assuming.
The NFL has nothing but thoroughbread athletes. The Majority of the NFL players either ran track in High School....and in College..or at least one or the other. And in most cases..those guys could of chosen a road right there with the likes of your buddy Maurice Greene had they not gotten a nice contract offer from an NFL TEAM. As a matter of fact...i'm gonna let you in on something else I'm sure you'll doubt....several NFL players could give Maurice Greene a run for his money and in some cases actually DEFEAT Maurice Greene in a sprint! You think just because someone has the title of fastest man in the world..that means there isn't someone else out there faster?
Let me give you two names because I don't wanna confuse you. First though..let me tell you one last thing that will STUN YOU....and that is that the MAJORITY OF NFL players who play either Wide Receiver or Defensive Back run sub 4.4/40's and a very HIGH PERCENTAGE OF THOSE PLAYERS RUN SUB 4.2/40's. We are talking about ABSOLUTE BLAZING SPEED HERE....as I'm sure you know.
Now I will be GLAD to give you 50 names of NFL players who run sub 4.2/40's....but I'll just give you two for now because these two have something even more unique. There's a player that came out of the University of Texas last year....his name is Roy Williams ....he weighs 235 lbs and is about 6'0. When the Dallas Cowboys scouts were working him out and clocking him in the 40...they damn near PAST OUT. The reason they damn near past out was because they knew he was a burner for the LongHorns...but when the clocked him in the 40 the first time...his time was so damn fast they thought their was some mistake.
They said he run a sub 4.1/40.! So they asked him to re-run the 40 a little while later and this time they were stunned to see that he even ran FASTER! LMAO...there were three scounts there at the time....they all said the same thing...they had NEVER in their lives seen ANYONE run that fast! He's definitely the fastest guy on the team...and that's certainly one guy that could challenge for the world record in any event under 100M.
The second guy is Charles Woodson. A player drafted by the Oakland Raiders about 6 years ago or so. He came out of the University of Michigan and before the guy even left college he won the Heisman Trophy! The award is given to the top college football player in the Country so that is special enough..right? Well...what is even MORE SPECIAL is the fact that Woodson is a Defensive player and a defensive player had NEVER won the Heisman Trophy until he did. And since that time...a Defensive player has still not won the Heisman! Usually the Heisman goes to a Quarter Back or Running Back...but Woodson is just a phenom. The guy plays special teams as well as defense and can break a play for a TD at any given time.
He now plays for the Oakland Raiders and the reason I mention him is because BEFORE THE GUY LEFT MICHIGAN he was benching about 400 lbs and running a sub 4.2/40! LMAO.....And last year I was reading an article in SI and Woodson completely stunned his teammates when he benched 500 lbs! Woodwon is only about 6'1 and 200 lbs!!! So that's just insane as it is...SHIT...just to run that BLAZING SPEED AND LIFT 400 LBS outta college is equally as impressive!
Now those are two guys...I can name about 48 more with NO PROBLEM if you'd like who can run just as fast or even faster. I agree that not too many other players can match Charles Woodson in the weight room AND on the field....but the point is that the NFL has the World's greatest athletes.
The receivers/Running backs, CB's usually don't eat a CRUMB off a doughnut during season....I mean that..not a DAMN CRUMB! In addition to the speed and power the majority of RB's WR'S and DB's have an uncanny Quickness to them. Quickness meaning lateral movements..explosiveness from side to side. You may of heard the term "BROKEN ANKLES" or "JUKE"......ask Maurice Greene to strap on a helmit and try and Juke Warren Sapp or Ray Lewis. Good old Maurice won't know what happened to him...and that's putting it lightly.
Anyway, the point to my post was really geared at those who think that sports such as Hockey and Rugby can even REMOTELY compare to the physical nature of the NFL. I'd agree those sports may compare to COLLEGIATE FOOTBALL...but certainly not the NFL. You can be the greatest college player in the world and be a bust in the NFL..it happens all the time. The NFL is a man's game...and being the least bit cowardly will get you cut instantly. An NFL player knows that one play can not only end their career but possibly end their life.
You should research it a little more...you might just surprise yourself at what you come up with.
@ phbalero.... you misunderstood me. I never said I like the NFL because of people breaking other players necks. Shit...I don't think a single player..no matter if they are the most viscious strong safety in the league..really want to paralyze a guy....but it happens and they know it...and that's the game. You intimidate the opponent.
There are many strong safeties who will "PULL UP" before unleashing on a receiver across the middle of the field. However, there are others who will risk their own well being and knock a receiver out unconsciousness and let him know to NEVER come across the middle of the field again....at least not while he's there. Guys like Steve Atwater, Ronnie Lott, Rodney Harrison, Chuck Cecil...are guys who would take your head off if you even tried to come across the middle. The middle of the field is the most dangerous by the way...and many talented wide receivers will not even think about going across the middle of the field in a game.
Anyway, the point I was making is that if Hockey is more physical then the NFL..then why is it that hockey players can play 4 games a week? That's pretty damn interesting considering that to play ONE NFL GAME PER WEEK is actually pushing it. There isn't a SINGLE NFL player who has played in a game who will go into the next game a week later with NO INJURY. All players...especially after week 8 have injuries....some play with chipped bones in their hips, feet, arms, legs...they just take cortozone shots prior to playing and they don't feel a thing. They get surgery in the off season...so they can be there for their team. The average NFL running back plays in the NFL for 4 years...just 4 YEARS! LMAO....you think ANY RUGBY or HOCKEY players can honestly say that there's a good chance they will play less then 4 years? No....they can't....that's why you can't compare the physical nature of the NFL to ANY other sport.
And that was my point. -
@defense
I'll have a mull over the stats at the nfl page, but one thing still niggles me: if these guys are so fast over the 40m (faster than the current world record holder for the 60m), why aren't they going for world records in the 60m? Wouldn't require that much more effort if they could whoop Maurice's ass over 40m, would it?
By the way, I don't think you're full of shit - I just can't believe the stats. It will take some time to sink in.
By the way, ever heard of Jonah Lomu? I reckon he'd do quite well at your game.Regards,
Rob
