  1. Hi.

I'm recording TV using ATI MMC 8.1. I'm interested in any ways that people might be using to skip commercials while watching playback (in ATI File Player, Media Player, or any other app). It would be especially great if a button on the remote could be assigned the task of skipping 1 or 2 minute increments forward in the playback.

    Thank you

  2. (Allow me to answer my own message after I've searched for a few weeks).

Light Alloy (http://la.video-soft.com/): it lets you specify an amount in seconds to skip forward or go back. I'm trying 30 second intervals, but it seems I need to learn the average amount of commercial time per different shows/networks.

Why don't you remove the commercials completely from the video ?

Exactly. Use TMPGEnc or Womble to cut out commercials on MPEG. Use VirtualDub for AVI.

  5. In response to the questions of editing out commericals (which I do for programs I record to the hard drive and then later write to DVD):

I don't write everything I record to DVD; sometimes I just watch it and then later delete it. For things like this, I don't want to to even bother the editing job of 5-10 minutes and then re-writing/encoding the file (e.g. a 3+ hour football game).

    Thanks

In that case, watch them with PowerDVD, and when a commercial hits, just make it play 32x speed. Play when you get back to the show.
