Could anyone show me the programs with which you can burn your avi's? I tried Nero.. But, it doesnt seem to be working as it gets stuck in the beginning part of the burning process without giving much info regarding whether or not it is working. I tried to format a cd as a data cd and copy the avi to it. But this method seems quite inefficient as it holds only 668mb... Is there anyway to burn it?

Just use the wizard in Nero and choose data disc then drop the avi in the burn window and burn it. This is the most efficient way to write a avi video to view on pc. An 80 minute cd will hold about 700mb (about 90 to 120 minutes of good xvid)). If you convert to vcd or svcd you can write the video in mode 2 up to 800mb but that would be a waste unless you plan to view it on a standalone dvd player. Converting the movie would require 2 to 3 cd's (s)vcd to achieve the same or near quality as the original xvid. Since you want to view the file on pc why bother wasting time and discs.

you can burn a xvid in mode 2 also -- giving you an extra 100meg of space ...

If you burn in mode 2 to get 800 MB, then you MUST use a player that will play corrupted AVI's. Mode 2 has no error correction, and you know hat happens to AVI's that drop a few bits.........

you cant burn any non-mpeg1 or mpeg2 files in mode2 using nero. This mode is only for vcd or svcd. you can burn your avi (unconverted) to a data disc. To burn it in mode2 you would have to convert it to S/VCD format. Or use a very special burning program.

if all you are going to do is play back on your pc -- it is fine .."Each problem that I solved became a rule which served afterwards to solve other problems." - Rene Descartes (1596-1650)
