The NEC has recieved an awful lot of poor user satisfaction posts. If you are talking retail drive,I would go Sony.I have the 500a with over 800 burns. If you go oem,the Pioneer 106 is a better deal.I have 7 in my duplicator.Sony gives much better support on their retail drives, which is why I state the above. The NEC is very cheap, but an extra $25 will get the Pioneer. The Plextor,if you are talking the new dual format drive, needs to be proven. It is $100 more than the others, and is NOT a true 8x drive.I love Plextor products, but I can't see paying that much more for their drive.

It looks like i am going to go with the pioneer oem dvr106. I have read nothing but good things about this drive. i am shooting for the dual format and pioneer has it. speed is not that important as i have nothing but time on my hands. i want good burns and very little coasters. i appreciate all that has been said far and would take anymore advice from anyone.

    thanks

  9. best thing is just search the forum for each one there are a zillion posts on them. Also, without knowing your full system specs, I can't answer.
