  1. I was wondering if it is possible to have a cd and dvd burner on one system under win xp. I upgraded to a dvd burner and I don't really want to just store away my old cd burner

Multiple burners are not a problem.

  3. Yes.

I did it for a while, but ended up never using my cd burner again so just took it out.

However it will be useful if you are backing up to CD and want to do multiple burns, to have a backup of your backup to save time.

(If you plan on using the burner as the read drive as well, don't. Buy a seperate dvd-rom drive otherwise you will burn the motor out on your expensive dvd burner quicker.)

  4. 8) Ahhh but who has ever worn out an optical drive? more likely the door will fall off or the tray will get stuck. Or the super caldera will explode under montana(?)

No, sometimes the tray motor dies

And if they get covered by enough smoke and soot from a house fire, they will slowly die. Even if you clean them thoughly.

And sometimes that old 2x2x6 will keep going forever, even if it was in the same house that killed your other burner (and much more)

The only thing the old 2x2x6 burners are good for is copying really scratched disks. That is the only reason I haven't disassembled it and used it for other repairs.
Hope is the trap the world sets for you every night when you go to sleep and the only reason you have to get up in the morning is the hope that this day, things will get better... But they never do, do they?

You are right. My old Sony 100E it’s still alive and kicking. It's installed in my brother's PC.
