  1. I just purchased some unbranded DVD-R media and checked the code with DVDinfo and the DVD media list. My purchase media is MXL RG01 and listed as Generic Maxell

However its the exact same media code as the TDK -R47A

If the complete media codes are the same does this mean that the media is also exactly the same?? The TDK gets good reviews but the Generic Maxell doesn't

  2. There was a long thread about this a little while back. Maxell manufactures media for other companies besides itself. Such companies included TDK and Apple, but it has never sold unbranded bulk media. However some time back, a company made media with counterfeit Maxell media codes. These fake maxells went on the market, but were extremely poor quality. There is a whole story regarding this on Maxell's website.

  3. So I could have the counterfit media becuase it is unbranded but matching the TDK/Maxell code? Seems to work fine although I have only authored a few of them so far.

I have some also and usually do the same thing, check the end, but when watching all the way through i found many areas with blocking, pixelation, skipping,
Not near the end but at diff. points through out the disc. yet there was no problem with the exact same files i burned to verbatim dvd+r's.

  5. The bottoms are purple like yours but the top is a goldish-Silver with no labeling. I think Im going to take them back and tell the store clerk to give me my money back or I will Rat his ass out to Maxell. Good thing I only bought the 25 spindle.

  6. These fake maxells were in unbranded and branded forms. The branded forms are usually extremely cheap with no-name companies.

  7. i've never heard of a major manufacturer faking media codes, so, for example, the TDK 4x+ and the Memorex 4x+ are the same media code and are the same media differently branded by each company. but i'd be weary of cheap, no name media with excellent media codes.
