I know that question has probably been asked before.. and I can't seem to find any technical reference as to WHY we don't have dual layer burners, only "Since you can't burn dual layer, you'll have to use 2 discs or shrink it, etc. etc"..
I am just curious as to WHY we don't have Dual Layer burners yet?

Because the DVD laser "looks" through the first layer to see the second layer. This is not something you can replicate with organic dyes and/or today's phase-change crystalline technology.
