  1. Panasonic LF-D521 DVD Burner
    Nero 5.5.9 + 6.0
    Princo DvD-r

I have burned 70+ discs without a single coaster and now I suddenly keep getting Target SCSI Error. The burn starts and then just fails. I tried using a lens cleaner. I completely uninstalled Nero 5.5.9 and Installed Nero 6.
Same thing only now it's Unspecified Target Error. I doubt it's the media, even though I have heard some bad things about Princo discs I'm still using the same 100 disc spindle which I have burned about 60 from without any problems. I have made no changes to my system and I can still burn CD-Rs.

I have come tried to find an answer on the net without luck. I found many people with the same problem but no clear answers. And in most of the posts I come across they can't burn CD-Rs either.

Any help would be much appreciated.

    Many Thanks

One of the common problems with cheapo media is inconsistency. Yes, you may have had pretty good luck with Princos. However, they are cheapos, and lacking in the consistency of quality that can carry you thru the long haul. You are finding that out right now....IMO.

Quality DVDr's like Ritek, Verbatim, Maxell, and Memorex, tend to have tighter QA, as well as higher quality dyes than your cheaper, bulk DVDr's.

To test the media as the possible cause for yer problems.....go buy a 3 pack of a good name brand media and try them.

In addition.....while cheapos may burn ok most of the time, their dyes do not last as long as the dye in quality dvdr's. They will degrade faster, eventually possibly leaving u with a whole dvd rack of coasters.

Hands down....THE biggest, most common issue that causes people problems in DVD burning.....is using cheapo media. Princo is top dog in that dept.

Remember.....there's a reason they were so inexpensive.

Unplug and re-connect the IDE cable and power connector from the drive and re-connect. Make sure you DVD/CD drives do not share a cable with your HD. I've burned over 300 Princo's,not a single coaster. Your drive is having trouble communicating with Nero,it's not the media.

  4. I'm pretty confident it is not the media. I made some adjustments and tried another brand and it worked. Tried another Princo and it work also. Then today I tried again and got 2 coasters. Even if Princo discs are garbage it makes no sense that I burned so many without a problem (at least 60) and then just out of the blue none are working. The thing that confuses me is if the drive is having problems communicating with the program how come I can still burn CDs without a problem and some of the DVDs are getting to 99% before failing. So the initial process is fine but it doesn't finish which makes me think something is interrupting or interfering the process. I've tried uninstalling and re-installing the device drivers. Also the device reads perfectly. I can watch movies and rip DVDs from that drive.
