  1. Has anyone reported strange LED flashing and general failure of their SONY DRU-510a models ?

I don't know if this problem was because of fireware 1.0a or 1.0b ( something I didn't know existed ) but I am hopeful that version 1.0c has fixed any of the problems.

Can anyone give us any info, comments on this,

    much appreciated in advance.

    Mark.

  2. There has been a number of threads regarding this problem with the sony 510. I have had the same problem. I don;t know whether or not is was a firmware issue or not because I did not check the firmware of my broken drive before hand. The problem I think is to do with the mechanics of the drive. The eject button of the drive did not function so that suggests that kind of problem. I have been unable to find any sources of information regarding this problem from sony. It is a bit of a situation. I have a new drive with firmware 1.0c and i hope the problem doesn't happen again.

I just posted in the other thread on this problem, I'll copy it to here.

Well I recieved an email from the Sony support guys (see below)
The link goes to the 1.0c firmware upgrade, so if anyone else gets the problem it would probably be worth doing the upgrade and seeing if it gets rid of the fault before sending the drive back.

Post it up here if it works and I'll pass it on to Sony.

Hi Glen, please refer to the link below in regards to their DRU 510 drive.

We also need their feedback to wether the firmware has fixed the problem. Please let me know the feedback from the customer's.

Also make sure they don't have anything running in the background and make sure screen saver is off and no programs running. Please update the case and let me know the outcome. Thanks.

I went from firmware 1.0a to 1.0c and have never had a problem with my 510a. Maybe it was an issue with 1.0b? I didn't even know there was a 1.0b so I never used it.

  5. same as Howard - never had a problem with the drive, and went straight from a-c. maybe this is a b-only problem, since everytime i've read about this problem, it was with a b-revision...

I just checked my firmware level and it's 1.0a. I've only burned a few DVDs, but so far no problems. Any reason why I should upgrade the firmware? I tend to not fix things that aren't broken.

1.0c is supposed to improve reading and writing performance and reliability. I did not have any problems with 1.0a but still upgraded because I like to stay current.

I have had my 510A for about 3 months now.

After 10 days the same thing happened to me. had an error when i was burning and the disk became stuck in there. tried everything still stuck.

did that poke a paper clip in the hole on the front panel to get the disk out but drive was still stuck, light staying on.

took it back and they replaced it (10mins in the shop very happy with that)

havnt had a problem since, still on 1.0b firmware.
