i have a duplicator with a 16x Toshiba dvd rom and a Pioneer 104. When i try to make a copy using Ritek x4 discs (or other brands) the drive will write at the maximun x2 speed but most of the time it will burn a light colour puple area near the edge of the disc. sometimes there are different shades. Don't have a problem on x1 speed discs. Can't set x1 speed on Ritek discs as the drive will always force maximum speed. Anyone know what the problem might be?

Yep simple one this - Unless your 104 firmware has been upgraded to use 4x media then there is a chance that you'll screw up your 104 - so stop using 4x until you do !. Search the forum for 104 firmware upgrades and you should then at least be able to burn your 4x media at 1x (or possibly 2x).
