  1. I have a JVC XV-S300BK DVD player. I am ready to buy a DVD writer for my PC, but I'm worried about compatibility with the player.
In the player's manual, JVC lists DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+RW as "non-playable disks. Pretty ominous sounding if you ask me.
But in the compatibility section of this site, the compatibility story looks quite a bit more positive, although still somewhat mixed.
I'd appreciate any help in avoiding a compatibility nightmare as I plan to buy a DVD burner.
    Thanks in advance.

  2. I'd say that JVC probably didn't test the machine for compatibility with the writable media, so to be safe, they just say that it isn't compatible to cover themselves.

I'm guessing that the list here on this site comes from actual users who have had success, so I'd feel safe trusting the information from this site.

I've got a JVC XV N44 and it plays -R, RW , vcd and svcd and mp3 . It's played everything the manual said it would and everything it said it wouldn't play +R and RAM's was correct. So the manual is probably fairly accurate. If you know some one with a DVD writer get them to burn a few DVD's in different foramsts and see what happens.
