Did a DVD-R for my mate from a MPEG and now when he plays back it is black and white and yet before i have done them and they are colour. is it a media problem or what? it's mad!

It's probably because you ecoded your DVDR as NTSC, hence the black & white playback.

When I watch a dvd-r on my PS2 I've got a green playback, but since a use another cable (not the original what came along with the PS2) to connect with my television, the dvd-r plays perfect.

if he's in PAL territory he'll need to hook it up with an RGB scart lead. most PAL televisions support NTSC signal now but only through one input which is usually an RGB socket.
