ok, here's the deal, I have an mpg thats about 2 gigs size after it's joined together. What I want to know is if I run it through tmpgenc or mainconcept mpeg encoder, will I get a better picture, or will it not help all that much?

In general, re-encoding cannot improve quality. If filters (TMPGEnc has them) are applied then the look can be somewhat improved, but not dramatically. Garbage in = Garbage out, the source is the key.
