    Do I need ATI's input/output adapter for video-out purposes? Is there a generic version or any way around that adapter?

    There is nothing magic about the adapter, it's just
    that it has arbitrary pin assignements which aren't
    in the manual. It may even be a non standard connectoor
    on card side.
    Why ? you lose one ?
