Hi, I use Showbiz movie editor to capture from my dv cam, then edit within Showbiz and am attempting to send back to dv cam for viewing on my TV.

It has worked once before with the same movie, but now when I save to tape, I hear the dv cam start but then stops immediately!!! No error messages etc, for some reason just doesn't keep recording. As I said, it has worked once before.... HELP!!! Going crazy!!

Also, about 90% of the time I turn my dv cam on, my pc doesn't recognize it with the little icon at the bottom right.... I find myself having to restart my pc, then it works when I switch my dv cam on, it becomes very annoying... why??

    Using:
    Windows XP Home
    Norton
JVC DV cam (can't remember model)

Any help would be much appreciated.

    Peace.

Norton - yah..... there is the problem :P

Not familiar with ShowBiz but does it have a "print to tape" feature rather than an "export" feature.
Also it may sound silly but could be missed : is the record tab on the tape in the correct position?

As far as PC not seeing camera ,try unpluging and replugging it the firewire cable next time it fails to recognize it .I get that occassionally with my USB external drive.

Yes, Norton... I have tried disabling it before I begin... still no go.
Yes, the tab on the tape is in the record position.

No, there is an export button, then it has a "save to tape" button... why?

Any other suggestions??? Thought of trying "Windows Movie Maker"?

I was bored so I did a search in google and found the following .

To save a movie to tape:
    1. From the Movie Buttons, move your mouse over Export.
    2. Click on To DV Tape.
    3. The file will begin to process. When it's finished,a window will pop up with a view
window and standard playback controls. Using the controls, navigate to the section of
the tape to which you wish to save the file.
    4. Click on the Save To Tape button to save.

Hi, thanx for your concern and the time you have spent to help me, I do follow those exact instructions, but when I click on "save to tape", I hear my dv cam start up but then a second later it stops.
Last night I tried again and it worked after about 20 times, but when viewing the tape, some bits played really slow, then really fast (audio too) and then back to normal. A minute after playing ok it starts again... very annoying!! This happened about 10 times throughout a 18 min movie.
But it is very annoying having to try about 20 times to "save to tape" before it works, and when it does... it has fast and slow playback... why?

    Well ......you got me

    Go here - https://www.videohelp.com/tools#Advanced%20Video%20Editors
and download a trial version of one of the following
SonicFoundry Vegas Video , Adobe Premiere OR Ulead Videostudio

See if any of these programs will allow "Print to Tape" . If so the the problem lies in Showbiz. If not then I would look at rereading your camcorders user manual to see if you need a specific setting.

  8. Also, check it your program has a place to configure drivers. You probably have a choice of TI or MS (DV Export driver). I would try MS first but check you camera's manual.

  9. You can try DVIO (freeware) and export to tape.
