I have some coffee that is rather coarse ground. If I grind to a finer powder, how much more taste will I get? The way I make the coffee is just mix the coffee and near boiling water together in a cup, wait 2 minutes, and then filter with a screen filter. I don't care if a small amount of coffee grounds get through.

The finer you grind it the more will get through the filter. I usually grind mine a medium fine texture. You'll get a bit more potent taste but it's not going to be a huge difference. I switched away from Arabica beans to nothing but Columbian a long time ago. Huge difference there. I can't stand Arabican beans anymore. Pure Jamaican Blue Mountain is still one of my favorites when I can find it...and afford it!

The finer the grind, the more bitter the taste. Let your taste buds decide how fine the grind should be.
Blue Mountain is considered to be the finest there is, but it's too mild for me. Same goes for Columbian. I prefer the richer flavors of Guatemalan or Kenyan coffee.
BTW, you might want to try a French coffee press. -
on that note...
I tried grinding my coffee and only succeeded in getting coffee stains on my crotch
