I am wondering what good media players there are out there. I just started using WMP9 and i am looking for something better. Any suggestions?

If you don't like the new style you should just change the skin to Windows Classic.

Zoom Player is pretty decent.
not super bloated, nice feature set, and it doesn't lock up the system the way WMP does on some bad files....- housepig

try Core Player, it's a very excellent OGM PLayer I can tell you that...but it also plays various formats aswell...I am truly impressed.
There is a free version and a Buying version.Check out my guide on converting .OGM format to an SVCD with Selectable Subtitles and Multiple Audio tracks.

I never use anything other than WMP. If it ain't from Microsoft, I don't trust it. Realplayers alirght, but I just don't trust software like "core player" or "Zoom Player".

I can't speak to core player, but Zoom Player is a nice little low-profile player with some decent features...- housepig

Just to weigh in on the topic, I hav found that Zoom Player and BSPlayer tend to be the most relaible, feature-rich free players available. In fact these tend to have more features than most of the commercial players. Media Player Clasic is also very good, especially when coupled with the Real Alternative and the QuickTime Alternative because it also supports A/V web streaming.
While I personally have had good luck with Windows Media Player in general, I have found through extensive experience with other people's computers that it is far more susceptable to interference from third party software than these other players.
Anyway, to conclude, I use Zoom Player for media playback, WinDVD for watching DVD movies only, and Media Player Classic for streaming video and audio. Oh, and Winamp 2 with the MAD decoder for audio playback.

Musicmatch_Jukebox_plus
basic is free
the best media player for handling audio chores
only $20.00 more will get you the plus version
it ripping or burning programs are as powerful as the $100.00 cd burning programs
it is the best program for ripping a cd to mp3 and convert one audio format to another. period
this is the only program that i know of that organize your mp3 cd text in the right order when you burn your cds
all of the burning programs misses the ball on that one
if you know what you are doing, you can burn a dvd on it
they can play whatever kind of music you listen to with their radio stations
and for for $3.00 a month you can listen to whoever you want too as they have over a million song in their data base with their artist on demand feature -
I tried out the Media Player Classic and i really like it. Lots of nice features.

we all know that windowsXP is a stable OS.
and we all know that if there is a possibility this OS to became unstable and hang it will be due to "windows explorer""internet explorer" "wmp" or
other microsoft software.
so for file browsing i use anything else than wexplorer, for browsing i try
to use iexplorer the less possible, and for media files i love to use
PowerDVD,zoomplayer and try any new soft around.
if you watch media files on your tvset if it is connected to pc`s vga card
you ll find that zoomplayer gives excellend quality superior to wmp. -

most of the maybe -- but not for HD and transport streams ...
also i hate the PowerDVD gui .. little tiny buttons you can not hardly see ..
thier mpeg2 decoder is real good though ...
that is why the best way to work PowerDVD is to right click on your movie and then select the options given depending on your movie...Check out my guide on converting .OGM format to an SVCD with Selectable Subtitles and Multiple Audio tracks.
