im a newbie to DV capturing. i wanted to get my analogue videos onto PC, like many others i researched and decided the ADVC-100 from cannopus would be the cheapest and most idiot proof solution for this.
im running a new athlon XP system with big hard drive + sh*t loads of RAM etc...raedon 9800pro graphix card, audigy 2 soundcard.
the only firewire port i have is on the audigy soundcard...when i run an s-video lead from my analogue camera into the s-video input on the ADVC-100, and then firewire from ADVC to the port on my soundcard..it can capture the video but no sound! ive played with all the volume controls etc in windows,, but no luck! im using MS movie maker to capture it...
I also tried running composite cables from a tape player, into the ADVC and then firewire to PC...i used SOundforge 6 to try and record some sound but there was none! sorry for the rambled message..but this is doing my head in...ive read here about XP compatability problems (im running XP home by the way) and also that other people have successfully captured through an audigy card...!? could it be because there is some sort of volume for the firewire port i cant find...or do you think my ADVC-100 is faulty!???? id REALLY appreciate any help...thanks.

I too have a ADVC-100, running XP home with SP1, and although the firewire carries audio, you have to output audio from the camcorder/vcr. Locate the audio outs on your camcorder/vcr and plug them into the 2 audio input jacks in the front of the ADVC-100 and try again.Burn Baby Burn

I had the same problem of no sound like yours, but not exactly the same ...
I wanted to convert my Hi-8 tapes to DV tapes and upload to PC for VCD burning, my DV camcorder has the Analog -> Digital function, so I used a S-video cable to connect Sony Hi-8 camcorder with Sharp DV camcorder, it looked like there was only S-video cable that could connect two camcorders and no inputs for audio.
And the final DV tape had good picture quality, unfortunately, no sound, of cause, uploaded it to PC, the AVI file had no sound either.
One alternative is to record the Hi-8 tape to VCR, and convert VHS tape to DV, but one more conversion will degrade the picture quality.
I posted this problem couple days ago seeking help, but so far no satisfactory answer yet. -
i tried connecitng my camera to the advc with composite cables too. i also ran rca leads from a tape player into the box's red + white inputs on the front...just to test....NO SOUND!
