Which of these two TV's is better?

No contest, the Philips wins. I repair these for a living and I see far far more Samsung sets than Philips. Also, Samsung parts tend to be much more expensive than Philips.

PS, The philips is better picture quality as well.

It sounds like the phillips has more picture "enhancing" for regular tv signals and the samsung only converts them from interlaced to progreassive, but both have a digital comb filter. I have a Toshiba flat-tube tv, although it's not HD, It does some sort of enhacing that makes the edges of people, objects, ect. have some sort of rainbowing effect. The edges seem to be outlined and as they move across the screen the edges change color even though I have the sharpness control turned all the way down. This bothers me tremendously, and it sounds like the phillips whould have more of these "features". My TV, I believe, has a digital comb filter so that might be the case and both of the tv's your looking at have that. Also, the samsung has 3:2 pulldown removal for dvds to convert them to progressive scan, and it sounds like the Phillips doesn't. My advice to you would be to look at the tvs in the store with the type of programming you would usually watch (dvd, tv, hdtv, ect.) and choose the one with the picture you like best, but also take into account what cooel has said about reliabilty and parts prices. Though personally, I'd wait on an HDTV until they have tners built in and there is some way of watching HD movie comes out other than DVHS. For now I'd just get a cheap, 32in., older style CRT tv. I think they have decent picture quality for cable tv and dvds.

I have a Phillips 36PW9525C, and I love it. Superb picture and sound quality.

Philips is definitely known for extraordianary quality. I know this is a bit off the subject...but it's amazing that CMC can produce such crappy media...but their Philips manufactured disks are not only the best CMC produced media...but parity errors show it's tops among ANY media.

I bet Philips has CMC on the straight and narrow....play games with crap quality...and they'll find someone else to manufactur the disks. Gotta respect that all the way...Philips gets my respect...oh...from the above posts..and the info I read between the two sets.....one more here for the Philips T.V.
