  1. Hi,

I would like to add a new subtitle with a new language to my ripped DVD movie and I would like to display this new language in the original subtitle selection menu as a new item.

I bought one of my favourute movie (Shakespeare in love) but unfortunately it does not have subtitle with my own language.

    What I did:
    1. Ripped the content of the disk to the harddrive.
    2. Run Subrip and extract the english subtitle.
    3. Translate the English to my own language.

Now I should copy it back to the vob files but I do not know how can I do it. And I also would like to display this new language in he subtitle selection menu as a new item. I have no idea how to extract the menu from the vob file and modify it.

Please help me how to do it.

Thank you for your help in advance.

    Hi,

If you want selectable subtitles you gonna need DVDMaestro or Scenarist.
The whole thing depending on whether you want to keep the same menus will need some/much reauthoring.
You have to prepare the new subtitle file, extract chapters /if you want to keep the current timing/, demux the streams, import everything including the new subtiltes into Maestro. If you want to keep the menus you'll have to do much more reauthoring. If not after you import the chapters all streams and subtilte files hit the Compile button and let Maestro do its work /approx 20 mins/. Don't forget to assign First Play to the first Chapter /00:00:00:00/ otherwise you'll end up with a non working DVD.
For more info on Maestro read the guides on this page.

    Enjoy!

  3. Thank you for your answer, Gregg. I will read this guide carefully.

But now, it seems to me, this is a very huge work for the first time without having any experience. That's why I started thinking about the changing of the subtitles with a different lenguage.

e.g.: I can not speak french so I do not need it. I would change it with my own language if it was possible.

Do you have any advice for me?

You must reauthor the dvd with dvdmaestro, sonic scenarist as gregg says. You can not just replace the subtitles in the original dvd(maybe some software will be able to that in the future).
