I recorded an AVI with VirtualDub and then converted it to MPG using TMPGEnc. The video came out with these settings:
MPEG-1 320x240 30fps CBR 1150kbps, Layer-2 44100Hz 192kbps
I want it to be 352x240, 29.97fps, and with 224kbps so it's ready to be created as a VCD disk. I've tried splitting the MPG into it's individual parts and putting them back together, they still come out the other way. I know it's a retarded and very simple question, but any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

Did you load the standard VCD template in TMPGenc prior to encoding? Truth is you can't can't the resolution w/o re-encoding it. HOWEVER, 320x240 will play fine on your TV so just go ahead and burn it. True, it'll be an xVCD but should be ok.

yes, vejita-sama is right. make sure you load the vcd template, it will give you a vcd compliant mpeg stream. note though, with an xvcd, a standalone might not be able to read the format and play it back properly. if the file you encoded is purely for computer use, then you can leave it as is.
splitting mpeg files into parts is not only NOT a good idea (since mpeg files are time-based) but by doing so, how is it possible to change the resolution? it's not. one more thing, i'm sure you know this already, but make sure if you're going to re-encode, that you encode the original avi, and not the mpeg files, for obvious reasons. -
I'm not 100% sure what is being said here, I'm kinda new to encoding and not exactly sure what you mean by certain things. Are you saying that I'll need to reconvert the clip using TMPGEnc from AVI to MPG, or I'll need to recapture the clip using VirtualDub again. I believe you're saying that I'll need to reconvert to MPG again, but I don't know how to "load the standard VCD template"... does that require a seperate download or is that a setting in the TMPGEnc? How do I set it to that mode?
Oh, and by "splitting the MPG into it's individual parts", I meant I seperated the audio and video into their own files and tried recombining them, but it resulted in the same file. Makes sense, but didn't help me at all. -
first, load your avi in tmpegenc. the vcd template comes with tmpegenc. at the bottom right of the window, you'll see a button that says "load". search for the vcd template (ntsc or pal) in the templates subdirectory of tmpeg. then encode away.
