No, original manufactured CDs were never CD-Rs. The data on a pressed CD is written in to a reflective layer with pits and grooves. The data on a CD-R is written in to a layer of dye that can be altered by the laser in a CD burner so that the burned CD can be read in the same way as a manufactured disc. However, a CD-R is not as reflective as a manufactured CD, which is why older CD players often could not play CD-Rs. A CD-R also has a code that marks it as a CD-R and says what type it is.

Some times a newer firmware for the DVD-drive (inside the DVD deck) enables CD-R reading capability.

Try burning your Music into a CD-RW. Some people have been able to read CR-RW when CD-R failed.
