F*ckin moviefactory again

i've got a lot of patience, u have to when dealing with all this vcd, dvd authoring burning etc.
ive only been doing it about 4 weeks and thought i had it sussed but no moviefactory has made me lose my patience.
i only ask for advice when i'm stuck and pissed off, here's my problem

when i use movie factory it makes my mpeg2 files about 2 times bigger i had this problem before but i had drunkenly unchecked the "do not convert compliant mpeg settings box"
now i have it checked, i use goldwave to extract audio use it with tmpgenc to reencode and when i check file with avicodec it is an MPEG2 (SVCD/DVD) file.
when i use moviefactory it doesnt recognise it as a compliant mpeg file!
i dont want it to convert it and take 5 hours in doing so and then still be too big (im sure that happened but i'd had a few beers)
ive done about 6 short tests with different settings in tmpgenc but movie factory still doesnt recognise them and makes them bigger.
surely if i use tmpgenc it should recognise them as compliant MPEG files?
anyway im ranting here if anyone has had this problem please help me out

i've had a joint now and a few more beers and have been reading about moviefactory and doing some tests.
my conclusion is that when u re-encode with TMPGEnc it will not necessarily be viewed by movie factory as a compliant MPEG file.
it seems to be down to what bitrate u select on page 4 of 5 on tmpgenc
u could have movie (a) with bitrate 3000 and its regognised by MF and movie (b) with bitrate 3000 and it's not recognised with MF
(lol just thinking about initials with Moviefactory)
i messed about with the bitrate and only the bitrate (i think i read some other guy done that) and sometimes moviefactory recognized files as compliant and sometimes not.
now i only have the trial version and i think for beginners its exellent....when it works but ive read too many problems about this annoying habit of it not recognising files and im going to try another authoring tool.
can someone point me i right direction either with moviefactory or other authoring app?

I use it alnost daily and never have problems. I suspect
you have TMPGenc settings wrong - there's lots.

Where did you get your video ? Why are you separating the audio.
MF2 will reject audio too.

Tell me what settings are and send me a reefer - I'm out.

(1)can't tell u where i got video lol
(2)im using goldwave for audio coz using tentpeg (tahts how i remember tmpg thing) doesnt do a good job of the audio with certain types of movies files or whatever they are called divx xvid etc so i use goldave for tentpeg audio (are u following? im not)
the fact there has been hundreds of questions about mf on here and the fact i think it's now a pain in the arse means it's not very good
maybe u always use 8000 bitrate? this seems to work ok with mf. but what if u dont want 8000?
i've read enough tonight to know there is a problem with mf and it recognising certain mpeg files
i would like to stick with it coz it does what i want when it works and is ideal for newbies like me but im going to try other authoring software now as no one knows the answer as to why some files get bigger coz mf doesnt recognize them as compliant and wants to reencode them for 5 hours just after tentpeg spent 5 hours doing them
im a bit confused now going to play yahoo pool or isketch or something

im back again
i've been trying out TMPGEnc author and it doent change the size of any files so i think i will be using that.
i made some other tests and bizarely some files doubled in size and some got a lot smaller when i opened them with moviefactory.
there is a problem with movie factory recognizing certain tmpgenc re-encoded files and it seems to be with merely changing the bitrate when re-encoding.
anyway for a stress free day im just going to use tmpgenc author in fact the best way to a stress free day is turning pc off lol

I'm not expert on this but I'm gonna guess it may be an audio issue. depending on settings MF usually converts audio to PCM format which takes up a lot more room that say AC3 or MP2 audio. I don't know what format you are encoding the audio to. I haven't tested it yet but there is a possibility that MF doesn't count AC3 or MP2 audio as compliant and reformats it to PCM which could be causing the increase in size. still that does seem like an awful big size increase just for the audio.

if the problem is the bitrate (MF doesnt like the given bitrate), you can patch the file with dvdpatcher.
just tell it what bitrate you WANT it to be, and it will patch the file,
no rencoding or anything like that, takes a few seconds at the most.

but patch the file ONLY after you create the menus that you want.
do the patch AFTER all the things you want to do is allready made,
create an image and burn it.

that should fool MF to think that the bitrate is fine.

didnt try it myself but i think it should work.

no harm in trying, you can allways patch it back to what it was.

i've been doing some searching on the subject.
i'm re-encoding movie with tmpgenc so cant check my new idea till its finished.

if u use the wizard on tmpgenc and change the bitrate (maybe other things too) then moviefactory will not recognise it as a compliant file.
well unless u changed it to excactly what movie factory thinks is compliant mpeg
i think i have to open file and use dvd template with tempgenc and not bother with the wizard but this means with mf u cant use files u made to your own specifications unless u want mf to reencoded them (which i dont)
i'll try it in about an hour.
and at least now if mf starts it's cr@p (which i know it will coz i changed bitrate with wizard) i can use tmpgenc author and know it will work

i think i need dvd templates for tmpgenc which work with moviefactory
there is only 2 that i can see and they re-encode too big again
anyway to cut a long story short where can i get dvd templates for tmpgenc which will be recognized as compliant mpeg files with mf?
also if i dont use the wizard with tmpgenc it doesnt allow me to make a small test it just re-encodes the whole file!?
anyway i'm about the only one that replies on here so i will keep myself posted lol

Have you tried using CCE instead of TMPGEnc?

I don't know if you've noticed but the second to last page
of the TMPGenc wizard has a size bar along the bottom
which shows how much of a DVD you are filling up,
and a little window containing the file size. You just
diddle the bitrate until the file is the right size.

Pick VBR up front to get that

i dont know if u noticed foo but i said when i use the wizard with tmpgenc and change the bitrate then moviefactory does not recognize it as a compliant file!
and its not tmpgenc that is the problem its moviefactory
ive just about given up with it
tmpgenc author will not re-encode files made with tmpgenc so why does f*ckin moviefactory!?

by george i think i've cracked it
as im from europe i had tv system on moviefactory set as pal but as most movies i have are ntsc then moviefactory tries to convert them to pal.
ive only done a little testing on this but think this is problem
u can change it on second page lower left corner it's like a filing cabinet then click preferences and change to ntsc and almost all tv's in europe now use it it's not a problem

this is definately the problem it only took me 2 days to figure out lol
if u have tv system set to pal and try to make ntsc film it wants to convert and if u have it set to ntsc and try to make a pal film it will try to convert.
the help guide in moviefactory doesnt point this out so no wonder most ppl get pissed off with it.
hopefully thats my problem fixed now
