I have an Xvid of an old movie that i would like to eventuall convert to DVD. It plays nicely with media player but when I try to load it into virtual dub for editing, it goes through a process that i'm not familiar with. Virtual dub says that is reconstructing a missing index block. I would like to know what this means and is theis file useable. After virtual dub says that it completed reconstructing the missing block, I save as a new avi and try to open it again and v-dub goes through the same song and dance. Is there away to fix this file. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Sincerely,

    VC

  2. I am not sure EXACLTY why this happens from my experience: -

If I am downloading an avi file and I want to see what it is like before it is completed I open it up in virtual dub it says "reconstucting missing index block" once it has completed I can watch the file (up to the amount it has downloaded) Also when I have files which WMP cannot open sometimes virtual dub gives the same message.

Once it has reconstructed the missing index block if you select save as avi it will create a new file with the index block in tact. So when you open the file again you will not get the same error message.

I think this is the answer but am not 100% sure better wait for some of the Big Guns like Mr Tucker to agree or disagree (probably)

I agree with Hardcoreruss, however you said that you saved it again so I am surprised that it should reconstruct the next time you open it.

You could try running DivFix on it (make a backup copy first) to see if that will help. However as you want to convert to DVD I don't think it should be a problem for whichever program you are going to use.
