    My NTSC DVD player can sort of do on the fly conversion (samsung c621). It has no problems with the 25fps of PAL but does not like the extra resolution. (It creates really jagged lines) I have re-encoded PAL SVCD 480x576 to a hybrid PAL/NTSC XSVCD (480x480 25fps), but of course I have to re-encode.

    Is there a way to drop the resolution from 480x576 to 480x480 without re-encoding?
