  1. I have several black and white movies to capture through DV firewire.

I want to turn the color off for capturing, but don't know how.

My old ATI AIW analog capture had a control panel to turn off the color, but I don't have that video card anymore.

  2. The only device/software I found to be able to do this on capture (transfer) of DV is with the Canopus ADVC-1394. It comes with a little app that allows you to adjust brightness, contrast, hue, saturation, and sharpness. Otherwise, editing programs, like Ulead Videostudio, allow you to make adjustments after the video has been transferred-upon re-encode/transcode.

I seriously doubt you can do this whilst capturing DV via firewire, as you're not exactly capturing are you?
You're simply transferring data from your camcorder to your PC.
I don't mean to doubt your intent but if they're B&W movies why do you want to turn off colour?
Anyway, if it was me and I wasn't happy with the captured DV footage I would adjust the brightness, contrast etc. suring editing, before I used TMPGEnc for encoding to mpeg2.

I've thought of this myself. The only thing I can think of is, when watching B&W interlaced picture some fabrics give off a color checkerboard effect. The whole screen is B&W except for a small part on a lapel.

The SIMA has a setting fo color or B&W transfering.
Don't give in to DVD2ONE, that leads to the dark side.
