  1. This likn work! Now I can open it using CuteFTP. The space is in a path (I don't know why - it is so difficult, because I can't download with FTP Explorer or IE 5.5 ).

    Some news:
    - perfectly working under WindowsXP;
    - Player can play VCD 2.0;
    - impoved DVD Player;
    - improved capturing function (beter quality, no frame drope);
    - and so on.

  3. I downloaded it (29.8 megs) and it just looks like v 7.1 to me. Nothing new.

    I looked at the zip file and most of the file dates are from last year but there are some with dates of 5/2001 and 6/2001 which are newer than the March 7, 2001 release date of MMC 7.1. Haven't figured out what it is yet but when I run it it looks that same and reports inteslf as MMC 7.1.

    I installed it on a box where it doen't matter if it's a hoax and becomes a problem. Anybody else try it yet?

  4. This file is starting to look like a zip of the CD that is included in the box. If I remember correctly the original CD installs the DVD Player as version 5. A rather counter intuitive upgrade requires you to download DVD Player 4.1 from the ATI site. After installing the 4.1 upgrade DVD Player reports itself as version 7.1 in MMC.

    After uninstalling MMC 7.1 and then installing this zip file that's pretty much what I get. DVD Player reports itself as version 5 - just like the original CD that is in the box. It then requires the 4.1 upgrade which moves it to version 7.1.

    I hope I'm wrong!

  5. Keep testing guys. And let us ati guys know the results.

  6. I'm bumping this back up top.

    I'm very curious if anyone else has any comments on it - the install.inf suggests it's 7.2 but it still seems pretty questionable. Due to the file dates (some new / some old)

    anyone like Next with an extra machine to try it out? Patrickm??

  7. This doesn't exactly seem like brain surgery to me...if it is legit, you should be able to find it on ATI's website.

  8. Agreed! but SOMETIMES people get stuff early

    but yes it CAN'T be downloaded from ATI yet

    I love a good mystery

  9. Well I've visited ATI site and it doesn't say anything about it, they are still distributing MMC 7.1

    On the other hand I tried copying and pasting that site posted on the first message but it doesn't work on IE 5.5, how can I get that file. I still want to try it even if it doesn't come from ATI

  10. It installed on my machine as MMC 7.1 and DVD Player 5.0.

    It still looks like a zip of the CD version on MMC 7.1 that is contained on a typical install CD included in the retail package of the card. It did not seem to run any differently after I installed it. But here are files with dates newer than the March 7, 2001 date of the online release:

    atisched.eve - 6/15/01
    ccaption.dll - 5/3/01
    conevc.dll - 5/3/01

    dvdchs.rsc - 6/26/01

    mmcdvd7.dat - 8/24/01
    mmcdvd7.dll - 4/16/01
    setup.ini- 08/24/01
    setup.inx - 8/16/01

    explbar.dll - 8/24/01
    atidvcr.dll - 8/14/01

    mpgaenc.ax - 8/14/-1
    tvdc.dll - 7/3/01
    tvdschs.rsc - 5/16/01
    tvdscht.rsc - 5/16/01 etc...plus othersin different languages
    tvremctl.dll - 5/3/01

    Like i said I installed it and did not see any difference from MMC 7.1 so i uninstalled it. But after putting together this post i may give it another look. Somethings going on here.

    edit -
    had to clean up some typos. The data cab files with the 8/24/01 date intrigue me as well as the setup and install ini's with the 8/24/01 date.

  11. what confuses me is the install.inf has this entry

    cdinfo= 7.2.0.0 cd08

    does that mean it's MMC 7.2 ?

    Have you installed the zip yet?

  13. No I haven't yet

    your comments made me think twice

    I don't have a second comptuer to try it on (unless it was a download from ATI)

  14. Stinky - that's cool

    Well it looks like something might be going on here. I took a look at one of my PC's with the online MMC 7.1 installed with the 4.1 DVD Player update installed. When I run the DVD Player the screen splash reports it as version 4.1.0.0. With the new zip file install on another box it is reported as version 5.0 and the copyright is 1997-2001 as opposed to 1997-2000 with version 4.1.0.0. so it looks like an update (I think I may have given some bad info in a previous post). Also in version 5.0 there is an additional tab in the setup menue - an audio tab that does not exist in version 4.1.0.0. It gives an option to decode and down mix to 2 channels or pass through to an audio device. The only other thing I can see that is different is that in Video CD Player setup there is an additional tab for closed captioning options.

    I don't see any changes in TV or its setup - ie no real changes to Digital VCR. The zip seems safe enough as it has not caused any problems. It has some updated dll's and files etc but nothing really new as far as capturing options. No SVCD presets!

    The only splash screen that is different is that DVD Player reports as version 5.0. This may turn out to be an improvement because the last time ATI improved things it was with the DVD Player update to version 4.1.0.0. I'd give it a try. No harm done here.

Whenever I go to the link that everyone keeps posting, it demands a password and says anonymous can't log in. What can I do!! Can someone please help me? I've been waiting for months for this update. Thanks,
