join your avi files together with Virtualdub (easy) or Avisynth (harder*)

encode to a dvd-compliant mpeg-2 file with TMPG, Main Concept, CCE or the encoder of your choice.

use DVD Lab, TMPG Author, or the authoring software of your choice to author your dvd.

Burn with Nero, RecordNow Max or your favorite dvd-compliant burning software.

(*to the AviSynth gurus, I know that joining is about the easiest thing you can do, but for those who are used to GUI-driven apps, the command-line action can be intimidating).

Hey barn animal, AVISynth's website has a coupe of GUIs for AVISynth......use AVISynth whereever you can. I just use VDub in my guide cuz it deals with audio well.....

I don't really care about Avisynth... I get what I need from Virtualdub & Vegas Video.

It just appears to me that most of the complaints about it seem to stem from the fact that you need to run scripts instead of clicking buttons, so I threw in that caveat...

  6. ok when i used TMPG to encode to mpeg2 format the size increasted to 4gig and when i tried to play the movie it had no sound in it ? I then tried to extract the audio from the movie, but when i try and play it, it doesnt play?

  7. After merging the AVI, you then need to extract the sound from the AVI (Using Virtualdub) and then select the audio file in TMPGEnc.

If the audio format is a non-standard format (eg AC3) you may have to use BeSweet (or any other program is good, I just like BeSweet) to convert it to some standard audio format (MP3/192kbps)

Chances are, you are working on the same video that I currently am, due to your explination of the 3 files, and their sizes, and the same "no sound" problem that I ran into.

If it's AC3, then he should demux it using VDubMod and use that as the audio on the DVD. As for merging the AVIs, I hope you know that you don't have to save it just have to Append then frameserve the video. My guide is in my siganature, so after you have combined your multiple AVI in VDub don't do Save AVI.

  9. ok heres exactly what i did.. i merged the avi's with Vdub. then from Vdub i extracted the audio to a .wav. After that i used TMPG and encoded it to mpeg 2 DVD w/e format. Then the file was to big so i took a little of the begining and the end. I used TMPG AUTHOR and converted and authord it n such, burned the DVD and ploped it into my DVD player.. the movie started up fine.. but the sound.. it was a little off? now im not sure what happend.. but i used besweet to convert the .wav to ac3. and i think it was off cuz when i inserted the ac3 audio it was b4 i stripped the AVI cuz it was to large. Following me? sry if this doesnt make sense. but im trying.. :/

Ok, not to confuse you or anything, but I have been having this same problem (except I have 2 avis' instead of your 3) and I dealt with each avi separate THEN joined everything at end. This is how:

    1. Used TMPGEnc to convert the first avi to DVD compliant (mpg2) while at the same time, splitting the sound and video files. Do the same for your other avi's as well. The hard part is keeping track of all these files on your computer.

    2. Use IfoEdit to join the audio and video file and create DVD structure files (vobs and ifos). Do this for each avi.

Now you have 3 different folders that contain vobs and ifos from each avi.

    3. Use DVD2one to encode each DVD set or what I now will call "disk" to, in your case, 1/3 the size of 4.3 gigs.

    4. Join the 3 disks with VobEdit

    5. Remove all the ifos and make new ones again using IfoEdit (remember to click "Get VTS Sectors")

    6. Burn baby burn!

I know, sounds like a lot but it worked and I didn’t have to crop or edit any video. I left out some small details so if you’re really interested in this method, PM me. Let DVD2One "squeeze" everything. You can also use DVD Shrink, which is free. Oh, if your final audio is not AC3, but rather MPEG Layer-3, then make sure your DVD player's audio output is set to PCM instead of Bitstream. Good luck!

It was off-sync because you cut the video at the start but not the audio.

I think you can use VDub to mask bad frames, but that's all i can think of.

Here's a guide. You need to remove the bad frames before doing anything else with your files. What I'm saying is that you need to start from scratch.
