I wish to clone selected items from my self-recorded DVD recordables (I use Philips and Panny decks by the way) onto a new recordable DVD using my PC DVD-Writer.All I see when I try this in Nero BR are unidentifiable .vob files and so on.Is there an easy-to-use prog that allows you to compile a new cloned disc with simple commands? Any help much app.

  2. Those VOB files are your stored movies (look to the left under what is DVDR). VOB files are MPEG2 files that contained multiplex streams. They contain: video, audio and subtitle streams.

What you need to do is determine the VTS that contain your item of interest, then de-multiplex (aka de-mux) them in seperate streams: m2v (video), ac3 (audio, might be wav/pcm), etc.

To determine which VOB ids match with your video you can either play the DVDR with a software DVD player and write them down (easiest way) or use a program like IfoEdit (assuming you know which VTS_00_XX.VOB series you want).

Nero is really only for burning things. In thoery you can author and do other stuff with it, but IMHO it has problems buring most things and sucks at authoring.

What you really want to do is de-mux the video/audio streams of interest, edit them as desired, then re-author and burn.

DVDTool box is a good all in one tool to do this.

  3. If all you want to do is crop a file I use DVDshrink to do that on my copies made with a Panasonic E50. I use SmartRipper to copy all the files into a VIDEO_TS folder then use DVDshrink to crop the start and stop points and also get rid of the Panasonic generated screen.

Why don't you just use Explorer? They aren't encoded.
