  1. I'm Looking to buy a new computer.

I was reading on canopus website about Motherboard chipset and problems with Canopus products

    http://206.111.152.200/ProductIssues/Motherboards/compat_motherboard_issues_index.php#friendly

Does this apply to the canopus advc-100? or will this work with any motherboard.

  2. The ADVC-100, DAC-100, or any other EXTERNAL Firewire capture devices should, in general, be independent of the motherboard chipset. It's the PCI cards and such that plug into the motherboard with special software drivers the Canopus page is referring to.

Even the motherboard firewire needs drivers to work. PCI firewire cards in general do not need special drivers, they use the windows drivers same as the motherboard firewire would use.

I had a Ti firewire chipset that only worked with the ADVC-100 after many power on/off cycles of the canopus. I switched to a VIA firewire chipset and have had no more problems.

    Cheers

  4. I don't disagree with you TBoneit (that's why I said "in general"), but go look at the original link referred to. It refers to CHIPSETS.
