I picked up a PCI ATI AIW Radeon 7200 card off eBay, new and complete, for $75. I'd look for a deal like that.
Saw these on right now:

I would go with lordsmurf's suggestion. You can't go wrong with an ATI, and, believe me as soon as you start capturing you will want to continue so you want a good card.
As for your suggested cards, I don't think those are the best choice for high resolutions. You especially don't want to go for the Cybermail if you have to tweak the drivers for a high resolution capture on WinXP, if you have to do that as soon as you get a card you know something is wrong or, as the price suggests, it just isn't a top card.
At least if you go with the ATI you will be covered for the near future, so if you want to move up to DVD captures, you won't have to fork out for a brand new card. -
I'd also recommend an ATI card. Very good capture capabilities, and nowadays the 7xxx-series cards aren't that pricey either. And you'll get a break-out box that you can can on top of your computer (at least with the retail version), so you won't have to fiddle around at the back out the computer to plug in the cables all the time. Also, a bunch of cables are included (s-video, composite video, audio). The only additional thing you might need is a Scart-to-composite/svideo converter.

ATI is definately the way to go. The AIW9000 card works well and so does the ATI 7500 AIW, however I believe ATI is going to be releasing 2 new standalone capture cards, I like to update my video card every year and I don't like to pay for the AIW all the time. My old PCI Tv Wonder card worked well but the new cards are much more superior. So I would either go with the AIW9000 which has the same capture chip as the 9700 I believe or hold out for the stand alone cards. By the way circuit city had the AIW 9000 for $169.99 plus a $20 mail in rebate.

This posting is a follow up, of sorts, to that by joesphroth
I need some help in setting up a simple video capture system. I would like to transfer my video tapes into digital media (DVD or CD), resolution is not a problem at this point. The video source is a simple (analog) VCR. I understand I need a card, which can handle composite video. I found some at ATI.com (TV Wonder VE), however, that card has certain capabilities, which I do not plan to use at this point, like: watching TV through PC, getting interactive TV listings, scheduling and recording TV programs, scanning channels at a glance, monitor closed captioning for hot words, etc.
It is no problem for me to pay some 50, maybe even 100 bucks extra, however, due to my limited computer knowledge, I am concerned, that I may not be able to set up a complex card.
Is there a simpler solution? Is it possible to capture video from analog VCR using a card without a tuner and all those extra bells and whistles?
Or, maybe, all those extra tuner-related features are reasonably "transparent" and even a novice like me would have no problem with that?
Thx: walter h -
The ati cards are pretty much plug and play. Press the record button and you are recording.
