  1. I am looking for a capture card for a pcmcia slot for my laptop. However, the only kind I am able to find are firewire cards and i already have a built in firewire port (4 pin i believe). I would like an svideo input pcmcia card for my laptop, but would be willing to settle for an external device that connected to my firewire port. What would be able to do this? Please help

  2. Only one I know of for sure is the Canopus ADVC-100, has S-Video and composite video in/out and R/L audio in/out.

But it is pricy, maybe $300 or so. Maybe the DAC-100 ?

I bought the Canopus as I was tired of A/V Sync problems, and that it can take macrovision inputs and work with a 10 second Button press.

I'm sure others will chime in too.

    Good Luck

  8. I would suggest the Canopus ADVC-100 and connect to it via firewire (iLink on Sony's) I saw another brand for about $200 but I can't remember what it was called. It's somewhere here in the forums....

yeah sorry the price would probably range from about $150-200, i know how u feel, by the way to connect your vhs to USB you hook up your vcr to this external hardware, then the hardware hooks up to the USB. i am talkin about Pinnacle Studio USB. basically price wise the more you spend the higher the quality, but i am just a newbie, u should search around and see, after all experience is the key. you an go ahead and buy a product and if u don like it, return it.

  12. would 640x480 @ 5fps be bad? I dont know the whole thing about how many fps is good and what is bad.

Also, which dazzle product captures 720x480 and is under $80?

The computer I am trying to do this on is a laptop, P4M 2.20GHZ with 768MB RAM

And where can you get the win tv pvr usb for under $80

  13. tgm4883.

I am afraid 5 fps would look more like a slide show than a video.

The resolution is the thing that you can afford to be smaller on not the fps. A good resolution for VHS is SVCD (352x576 Pal or 480x480 for NTSC I believe). But keep the frame rate at the original (25 fps Pal or 30 fps NTSC).

You wouldn't happen to own a Digital Handycam would you? Or considering buying one? Because they are perfect for video capture to a laptop through firewire using the analogue->digital passthrough that most handycams have. This is how I convert old VHS and 8mm footage to DVD. I also convert old Super8 film to DVD using the camcorder.

    Hazza.
