Hey everyone, newbie here and i have problems for all u budding wizards out there.

    First....
Just got a vid file in mpeg format, but believe it to b mpeg1 and my computer dont seem to b able to work with it. The file plays fine in all media programs but i dont seem to be able to work with it in *Nero*, *TMPGEnc* or *VDub*.

Would like to turn this file into a VCD for use on a standard DVD player so sure it has to b in mpeg2 format, is there a special program or codec i need to work with this??? Already using ffdshow and Nimo codec pack which i have experienced no problems with, apart from VCD's appearing upside down which is simple enough to overcome.

    Secondly....
Is there anything available to help me bypass copyright protection on CD images such as .bin files or .iso files....as well as media such as MPEG or AVI.

As u can see im in trouble so ANY help would b great. Hope u guys can solve this mystery for me.

  2. If you want to make the video a VCD and the file is already MPEG1, then you don't need to convert to MPEG2.

Double check and make sure that the file is falling in the VCD standards for resolution and bitrate, if it is not, then this might be the reason that the burning encoding software is having issues with it.

  4. Have you tried avicodec or gspot? Both are in the tools section of this site and both will tell you what you need to know. Try avicodec first, if that doesn't work, try gspot.

ok, turns out the file is MPEG2..

    Video Codec: Intervideo Video Decoder
    Audio Codec: AC3 prologic decoder

however...it doesnt give me any information about the audio or video formats.

I dont think theres a problem with codecs though as it plays fine in media player, zoom player and the like, but the problem is when i try to use the file in nero, vdub or tmpgenc.

when i try to write it to VCD it says the file is not VCD compliant...then it goes on to say

"due to patent license restrictions, the MPEG2 encoding/converting is not available. "

It says i have to purchase a codec plugin from nero.com but is there another way of doing this so i dont have to blow my money??

you must pay nero to use mpeg 2 files. you must pay tmpgenc to use mpeg2 files. you can get a versioin of mpeg2 vdub here at this site.

    your options are
download a new tmpgenc version which will give you 30 days free mpeg2, or get the tmpgenc mpeg2 plug in available on this site

  8. @Stuntcock,

so, do you actually know if you have a VCD MPEG-1 or SVCD MPEG-2???

either way, nero has both a VCD burning template and a SVCD burning template.

if nero complians about not being compliant, uncheck the box next to "make standard, compliant"

well you have several choices, the file could be xvcd and its 352*240 but instead of being MPEG 1 they encoded it to MPEG 2 so you would burn this as a non standard svcd using Nero burning rom.

Then if its 480*480 you would burn it as an SVCD using Nero burning rom or whatever other program that burns SVCD.

if its 352*480 you can burn it as a non standard SVCD using Nero BURNING ROM or VCD EASY.

But I think your file is a 720*480 MPEG-2 DVD Compliant file, because svcd or cvd dont have AC3 Sound. so you can burn it to DVD-R usign an authoring program like TMPGEnc DVD Author, or just demux the file and convert the audio to MP2 and remux it as an svcd, and you can burn it as a non standard svcd.
