  1. I have around 60 aiff-files (5 cd's) (48 kHz) that i want to put on a DVD-R and use in my dvd-player (Pioneer DV-340) as an audio-disc. maybe with a still picture (or just a black screen) if that's necessary. how do i do that?

how do i convert the files to PCM? is there any quality loss if I encode them as AC3? (how do i encode them to AC3? is A.Pack the only way?)

    any ideas? thanks.

dont know myself, but its been covered before.
    Try a forum search.

Also........... if the dvd player handles .mp3 you can put something like 100 albums onto a dvdr.

but again, only if it plays mp3's

I think the only way to convert to ac3 is through A.Pack. I've never tried that, but if it were me I'd use DVD Studio Pro. There may be easier ways, but I'm not aware of them at this time. IF it'll read the DVD Disk and decode the files if burned in data mode, then go that route, although I'm not sure if any drive support that.

You could try putting Toast in Audio CD mode, dragging all your AIFF files to it, and try to record to DVD-R (-RW would be safer, sparing you a possible coaster), and see if the player will read it. Failing that, you can encode them into AC3, or possibly PCM, and use DVDSP or Sizzle to master the DVD. If you want pictures, you need DVD Studio Pro. If you have it, and want to spend a lot of time making your enhanced audio DVD, let us know, and we can guide you through it.
I like systems, their application excepted. (George Sand, translated from French), "J'aime beaucoup les systèmes, le cas d'application excepté."

  5. just burned the dvd with great result. i used DVDSP and dropped all the aiff's in 62 diffrent tracks and then dropped a black screen mpeg2 on all the tracks.

worked great. but it there is a slight pause between the tracks, wich is bad when the music is from a live concert. (it's like when burning a cd with a recorder not supporting disc-at-once).

also, I can't get the random/shuffle function to work on my dvd-player, any ideas why? that was one of the pros with putting a whole discography on one dvd, but that doesn't seem to work.

  6. ...just forgot, next time i'll try to make the dvd with nice menus of each album with cover art and stuff, but i'll guess that's a lot more work...

i think the only way around this problem is to merge all your AIFFs together first, then add the resulting AIFF file to DVDSP, and add a chapter marker where each new track should begin. it's a bit extra work, but i think it's the only way..
