  1. stupid Punisher

    -----------

why don't they put all the Marvel "good guys" together to fight all the Marvel "bad guys"...

X-Men hangs out with Spider-Man, buys Hulk as a pet gorilla, make fun of Daredevil for having purple (or moroon..whatever) as his color, then point out that the Batman series went down the toilet, .... and then the Punisher punishes all of them

personally, I'd love to see some big mega-crossover.

think of it... summer, 2005 - SpiderMan 3, Hulk 2, Daredevil 2, XMen 4 and Fantastic 4. Have one big crossover storyline, release one every 3 weeks throughout the summer.....

    could be good...

I hate to burst everyone's bubble here and boost your thunder all in one post, but Stan Lee beat you all to it. Check out the Marvel Secret Wars, circa 1984.

No, I meant the Marvel characters mega wars. Richard Nixon did "poop on" thing first. He just did it to the entire nation.

well, hell... Marvel's been doing character crossovers since at least Spiderman #1.

that was one of the big things that separated Marvel from DC for years - in the Marvel universe, everybody met everybody (or at least acknowledged their existence).

In the D.C. universe, at least until the later 60's, with the exception of Batman & Superman, or explicitly "team" books, they didn't cross over - if you were a Flash fan, you'd hardly know he was in the same universe as Superman...

    poopy -

okay, I don't know if you're taking the piss or not, so I'm going to treat it like a regular question. ..

the point I was trying to make is that if it wasn't a team book, like Justice League, or a team up book like World's Finest (with Batman & Superman, with the occasional guest star), the D.C. characters all seemed to have thier own world... and the stuff that happened in the team books didn't seem to have any impact on the regular series for that character.

by contrast, the Marvel universe was a pretty integrated one, where you'd have Spider-Man go and try to join the Fantastic Four... because they were in the same universe. You had Daredevil meeting Spiderman on a regular basis, but beyond that, you'd have mentions of other characters from other books, even if they didn't appear. So all the series kind of wove together, and it was more rare to find ones that didn't fit, or only occasionally fit (like Tomb of Dracula or Howard the Duck).

I mean, hell - the Hulk gets put on trial. Who defends him? Matt (Daredevil) Murdock. Witnesses for the defense? Thor, The Fantastic Four, Captain America. Then months or years later, a reference to the trial might pop up in a Thor comic, or an issue of Captain America.

It goes to the bigger issue that D.C. wanted self contained stories, at least one if not two or three, in every issue. You couldn't leave someone hanging, you had to wrap up your story in 8 to 24 pages. By contrast, from the start, Marvel had subplots and story lines that would cover 2, 3, 6, a dozen issues... and you had to get them all (not in the exploitive way that Marvel started in the mid-80's, but in a soap-opera kind of way). They expected that a significant portion of thier audience would stick with the comic for a few months, not just pick up one or two issues and move on to Richie Rich or something.

D.C. just didn't start doing this until the late 60's and early 70's. Most of their 60's output, with the few exceptions of the JLA/JSA yearly crossover, which would last for an issue or two, was self-contained stories.

sorry.... my inner comic geek is showing... but I was a comic geek waaay before I was a computer or video geek....

    didn't see it.

however, a couple of my coworkers think I'm the Comic Book Guy from the Simpsons, owing to my beard, ponytail, belly (thankfully fully covered by my shirts) and my prodigious knowledge of the comic book universe.
