To improve ripping over my Sony burner's limited 2x, I'm now usigng the A-Open unit. Copies great up to 7x by the end of a DVD5, but the other night it worked wonderfully. Ripping 'Blade Runner - Director's Cut' it started at 7x and peaked over 13x giving an error-free transfer rate of over 20Mb/s. But only once! Tried again last night, and back to max 7x.
My question - what determines the max speed for ripping? Maybe the ROM decided that the movie was in fact a normal data disc and used max speed. But how does it decide - in software or firmware?
My platform is capeable of the high speeds, but how can I make the ROM run at this regularly? Anybody have any advice?
Chris

Don't have a clue why it went fast then slow however when I rip I close down any and all running programs plus anti-virus and firewalls which seems to help a bit.
