  1. Hello !
I use smartripper to extract video and audio from a DVD.
The file xxx.m2v contains the MPEG-2 video and AC3 the sound.
The problem is that when I in TMPGEnc do simple Simple Multplex I get
the error message illegal Mpeg audio stream.
I also have tried to load the audio file in TMPGEns DVD author and this program also reject the file.
The only program that accept the audio file is DVDit.
Anyone who can explain this ?

  2. TMPGenc does not accept AC3 audio streams, but even if it did you doesn't author VOB files only MPEG1 or MPEG2 files (yes I know VOB files are MEPG2 files ). However, TMPG's auhtoring program should, so that is odd.

Q: What are you trying to do? You demux the m2v and ac3, then try to re-mux them? Why?

It sounds like you are trying to backup only the main movie (or part of one) from a DVD. If so the easiest way to do this (IMHO) is with IFOEdit, see the guides to the left under 'DVD Rip'

    http://www.doom9.org/mpg/ifoedit-menustripping.htm

Another way to go is with DVD Shrink (http://www.doom9.org) you can choose to back up only the main movie and choose 'no compression' or remove the audio/sub tracks you don't like. It's a transcoder so you can compress too if necessary.

    Both programs are freeware. Luck

  3. Hi !
    Thanks for your answer.
Yes, I try to extract chapters from a DVD and then reauthoring them again.
Most authoring program do not accept separate video and audio streams.
The only program I have that does this is DVDit.
I am not fully satisfied with DVDit so I want to be able to use another authoring program ( Studio 8 for example ).
Maybe a solution as you suggest is to use IFoedit, but my exepriences with that program is not so good.
There must be another way to extract the video and audio from a DVD or
remultiplex the video and audio that smart ripper generates.

Try DVDLab...it will accept m2v as the video and ac3 as the audio...I have been working on using DVDshrink to rip-VOBedit to DEMUX (the result is a *.m2v and a *.ac3 file)...then I can import these files as "assets" with DVDLab...works great everytime!

  6. TMPGEnc does take AC3 audio streams, I know that it has since at least version 2.53

  7. Hello !
I have version 2.57 of TMGEnc and it do not accept AC3 streams ripped
    from smartripper.
I get error message unsupported file.
Could you explan more detailed how you do to get TMPGEnc to accept AC3 ?

  8. You can author with IFOEdit. You just load the mpv, ac3 and chapters.txt (if you want the chapters)

  9. Hello !
I have several different *.m2v and *.ac3 files that I want to author
    to a new DVD.
Is this possible with IFO edit ?

    @Mickey666

You can...but if I remember correctly (been a while since I used IFOEdit), you can't make a menu with IFOEdit...

Like I said, it's been a while, but I thought IFOEdit was more for re-authoring a ripped DVD...and, I just tried to import an *.m2v, along with a *.ac3, and got an error message...

I'll just stick with DVDLab...still haven't had any problems with it...

    just my 2 cents worth...

  12. Dear Mastersmurfie !
I have tried to author a DVD with DVD-lab.
When I compile the DVD i get a message "can not packetize audio stream"
The DVD plays fine but there are no sound.
Do you have any suggestions what to do ?

What exactly are you trying to do here? What kind of DVD are you trying to back up? The method you are using is not the best way of doing it and only makes sense in a very few examples.

If you still want to do it this way then let me suggest this.

RIP the M2V as you have been doing but for the AC-3 do a SECOND rip of the MOVIE using FILE mode. This will give you a bunch of VOB files. Run the VOB files through DVD2AVI and it will extract the AC-3 audio file.

This method works good. The AC-3 will be usable.

I have found that trying to RIP the AC-3 directly with SmartRipper tends to create an AC-3 that doesn't work for some reason (though I don't know why).

first...can someone tell me how I posted twice...the same post...like 10 minutes apart???...???

what version of DVDLab are you using? I have just finished "making" a DVD with two motion menus, with sound; and the only problem that I have is that my ac3 sound is TOO LOUD...

I recorded a movie; then extracted the sound with VDub...then used BeSweet to convert to ac3...(all sounds files were converted to ac3...) then added all "assets" to DVDLab and "compiled" a new DVD...

  15. Hello !
First of all thanks for your answers.
Mastersmurfie: I am using DVD lab demo version 1.1.

All I am trying to do is to extract chapters from a authored DVD.
I have got a bunch of DVD home movies thaht a friend have make and they contain stuff that I want to reauthor to a new DVD.
For eaxmple I want to have chapter 2,6,8 from the original DVD.
Until now I have extract these chapeters with smartripper and end up with
    files ch2.m2v ch2.ac3 ch6.m2v ch6.ac3 and so on.
Then I have use DVDit to reauthor them to a new DVD and this works fine except that my DVD does not show any time information and I also want to use another more sophisticated authoring program.
If there only have been a way to mux the audio and video files together then there have been a bunch of authoring program to chose between.
My guess is that the only way to mux the files is to convert the audio files to mp3 or wave format and the mux them with TMPGEnc, but this is to many steps to do.

MastersmurfieVDlab seems to be a very usable program but I do not want to do more steps then I am doing now.

Mux the video with its corresponding AC3 for each one usin TMPGEnc, it supports AC3 for mux. Then, combine them all with TMPGEnc. There you have it. ONE BUG MOTHER FILE!

  17. Hello !
I have now found what was causing me the problem with AC3 files.
The files generated of smartripper can oly be used by DVDit.
When I canged to DVDdecrypter I can use TMPGEnc to MUX and DVD lab without any problem.
    Very strange

    Thanks FulciLives.

Yes good advice BUT it sounds to me that the problem is the AC-3 audio file RIPPED with SmartRipper. I've had the same problem myself when trying ot RIP the AC-3 only in Stream mode while using SmartRipper.
