I have a G4 Quicksilver with Toast 5.2 and a toshiba 220e DVD player. I have read through the forums regarding this player and they state it is very fussy with blank media ie cdr or cdrw. I would like to create VCD's although I always get the 'disc error message'. I have tried different media cheap and expensive both CDR and CDRW and I still get the same problem. I have followed the instructions within toast in creating a VCD. I can't think of a solution. Can anyone help.

    Thanks in advance.

unfortunately you say "they state it is very fussy with blank media ie cdr or cdrw"

so your sort of out of stuck. VCD would be burned to cdr or cdrw.
Id suggest contacting however "they" is and ask them if there is a preferred brand. It could also be the burning mehtod. SVCD's for example burned by toast are hardly ever accepted.

you would have to use something like Missing Media Burner or Firestarter FX

this would require taking your .mpeg1 file and creating a .bin/.cue file out of it using VCDTOOLSX

once you have these just burn them and maybe, just maybe, that will work.

    sorry

Galactica is posting while he is drunk again.

I had the same issue with a Samsung n2000 Nuon player. Everywhere that had info on it said that it was able to read CDR discs, except all the user forums. I was one pissed off individual when i shelled out $250 for this hunk of crap that couldnt read a single CD-R. With these finniky players a lot of it has to do with the coloring of the disc. See if you can get your hands on some "Silvers" or "True-Diamond" CD-Rs. These discs look just like commercial CDs once they are burned. Furthermore, burn at the lowest possible burn speed.

You can get 100 of the Diamond CD-Rs at the link below for $40.

Or for $40 you could buy yourself a new DVD player that will play all VCDs regardless of media.

  4. i have heard that most of the commercial DVD players are picky, some are extremely picky (my friend has a DVD/SVCD player which only accepts imation CD-RW, which makes it hard, because those are only 650MB) I recommend checking out ebay. A company called Green Mountain Traders sells portable VCD/CD/MP3 players that accept every type of blank media I have thrown at it (I use mainly maxell 40x 700 MB CD-R. I buy them in packs of fifty, and it usually takes two to hold the movies I make with Forty-Two and Toast Titanium) The only problem with these is that you have to change from PAL to NTSC mode (which usually happens even with PAL VCDs) and a lot of people don't read the manual and think that their player doesn't work. Oh, btw, the players cost 70 bucks, and come with everything you need. (I like smileys)
:)-The box said "Windoze 98 or better," so I bought a mac. (a quote stolen from someone who, in turn, stole it from someone else)-:)
